I thought I would ask Dr. Ghen to elaborate a little more on the answer that Dr. Peimer gave in the Ask the Doctor forum. Here is my question and his answer. Thanks as always to Dr. Ghen.
Hi Dr. Ghen, Dr. Peimer did the last Ask the Doctor forum and he commented that we should not use Omega 6 after getting a stem cell transplant since it is inflammatory. Would you care to elaborate on that for our members if you share this same view? He didn't go into any depth about it and I think it might be something of interest to forum members. Should foods that contain Omega 6 be eliminated from the diet or is it enough to just avoid extra supplementation of 6 in your opinion? Thanks as always, Barbara Ahhh the confusion! It is true that too many of our oils in the diet are omega 6 series that leads to increased series 2 prostaglandins. Most omega 6 oils are inflammatory because they increase arachidonic acid. However, and here?s the key; certain omega 6 oils like Borage, Black Current and evening Primrose ail which are high in gamma L. acid encourage the development of series 1; a most powerful ANTI- Inflammatory. Therefore, the presence of these omega 6?s typically are in combination with the fish oil capsules. These ARE beneficial and not at all aggravating of inflammation. Basically, Stay away from the vegetable oils ( high in the wrong omega 6 oils) and take the borage, B.Current and the Evening Pr. Oils. That should clear it up. Health, Happiness and Hugs, Dr. G |
