Default My guilty pleasure...
It's wine! I admit it. I love red wine. I know it's not the worst thing in the world I can drink, but the problem is that I really like it late in the evening to wind down. I've always read that alcohol metabolizes before food, so that bothers me too. I try to limit myself to having it on weekends only as a reward for a good week. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't.

So, what's your guilty pleasure?

White wine! I love New Zealand Marlborough sauvignon blanc. Okay... that's this month. It changes. LOL Ice cream used to be my downfall.

Re: wine... I measure it out and sip it very slowly. 4 oz is not a lot, but I make it last.

Oh... and yes, alcohol is metabolized first. It's a poison so it needs to be metabolized before anything else. As long as you have alcohol in your system you will not be using fat (or anything else) for energy. Alcohol has 7 calories per gram.

Here's a pretty good article on it. I don't like the way the author trashes low carb diets, but we should be used to that by now.

Hi Kathleen and Tril. I’m fairly new to the site. I had been eavesdropping for a while and finally joined a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE this website. Very inspiring. I hadn’t posted before this because I’ve been doing well (10 lbs so far!), truly love the low carb lifestyle (not diet) and really am not tempted by the cakes, pasta and potatoes. HOWEVER, I do treasure my Chardonnay(s!) after work while cooking dinner and reading the paper. I also love a big pour (4.5 oz really?). Cutting back on my wine has been the hardest part.
I’ve been using the Ketostix lately for inspiration. It’s helped me cut back on the vino and SF gum. Looking for deep rose or purple has really been helping me out. Who knows if it will work for you, but it’s been helping me.

Hello Kim! So glad you came out of lurkdom and joined us!

Read up on ketostix... I'm not saying don't use them if they're motivating to you, but be sure you know ALL of the reasons you could get a very dark purple reading. Most have nothing to do with losing body fat.

Yes... I limit myself to 1/4 cup of wine. I would certainly LOVE a full glass, but I don't allow it. Heck, I could drink a whole bottle on a weekend night if I let myself! In the last three weeks I've had wine twice. So I also limit the number of days I have it.

Thanks for coming to out to talk to us Kim! I am so glad you did. I have used the ketosticks too! I like seeing that dark purple color. It made me feel like I was making progress. I haven't used them for awhile - mostly because they are expensive. Kudos to you for making progress! 10 pounds is GREAT!

I've been a good girl so far this week. I haven't had my wine since Saturday - no, make that Sunday. It's good to know I am not alone.

My biggest downfall is Coca Cola Classic. I dearly love them. Don't try to tell me to switch to diet colas. They are horrid. All of them. I know because I've tried every one.

I do like the diet non-colas, but my guilty pleasure is an icy cold, bubbly, caffine loaded Coke.

Yeah, wine every time. Sad to say I sometimes count it for my carbs for the day which is very bad but hey, nobody's an angel and I'm still losing weight

Drinking and eating late at night is hard on the liver I had horrible sleep problems when I had chronic fatigue. The first thing I learned was to minimize salt and sugar so I wouldn't be thirsty in the evenings. Then I stop eating and drinking at 5pm. This puts me into a deep wonderful sleep. And with our stomach, liver kidneys having nothing to digest, they do anti-aging jobs. That's what I want, especially now that I'm in mid-30's.

I have to agree with you, I love late glass of wine in the evening to wind down! Once you start having a drink in the evening it sort of becomes routine, well it certainly did for me, I am now limiting my drinking to one night away,(as a hard as that may be) as a treat for doing well at atkins!

CHOCOLATE! I've found a great low-carb, stevia sweetened, dark chocolate in a few nice flavours. Valencia Orange is my favourite.

Every night I have one of the six squares in a bar - hubby obligingly disposes of the other five squares, fast! Isn't he helpful? It's only 7g of chocolate and almost NO carbs, but it makes my day complete!
