i gave my self a ganglion the same way. it didn't bruise though it just came up in a lump on my wrist. its flares up every few months and my left hand is fairly useless and painful for a few days.

but when i did it it felt like something was popping and crunching at the same time. I did it again last week carrying too many plates with that hand

the bruise looks like it could be a blood vessel like the 1st doc said.

they just called me and they want me to go for another x ray

i dont want it to be fractured because then i would have to wear a cast, but i do want to figure it out http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif

Awwww....I am so sorry to hear and see from your pic how awfully injured and in pain you are http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif

I will try as much as I can to address most of your concerns. I am not an MD but i guess since Mds dont find time to explain things in details nor address the concerns of patients is when my profession comes to play http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue2.gif

1) 1st Md/why not know if Blood vessel popped out : In that early stage of an injury, an MD will only be able to see probabilities esp without diagnostic tests to prove such a a diagnosis. At this point in time, she can only determine from signs and symptoms like bruising, swelling and increased pain the probability of a popped vessel. The main objective then is to decrease as much trauma and swelling to the wrist so further tests can be done if no relief of complaints is achieved hence just the icing and no bracing/splinting.

2) why no splinting initially: Since Md was already able to determine that there's no gross fracture as there is still range of motion on your wrist, then increasing circulation through not splinting at the moment helps in provision of nutrients/oxygenation thru blood circulation to the wrist for good healing process.

3) increased pain: that is normal in any injured body part. It is the body's defense mechanism to signal all other organs to concentrate on the wrist where help is needed for healing to occur.

4) 2nd MD/Radiologist: Despite that MDs are allowed to read initially Xray results/films, it is only a Radiologist who can make the final/official reading as dictated by law and limits of practice in Medicine

5) increased bruising: is due to the trauma to the area and also popped out capillaries ( mini blood vessels connecting to veins and bigger blood vessels ) that causes internal bleeding. Muscles and tissues are also traumatized.

Hope the info helps and i didnt confuse you more http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...illy_nilly.gif

Hope you feel better soon http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

you could have a hairline fracture too, which are harder to see on X-Ray
you may be right about the hairline fracture http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/nod.gif

Xrays are able to determine though a hairline fracture esp at a wrist with less muscles. tissues etc to block the vision to the bones. However in Jd's case, it might be that due to the trauma to area with increased bruising and swelling that it's harder to determine a hairline fracture at this point http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Unfortunately nothing can be done if it is a fracture, damn looks painful looking at the photo you posted http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/eek.gif

I thought you fell and injured it at your birthday party?

It looks a lot like my ankle when I have sprained it badly

XU8i6ysK 11-14-2010 10:02 PM

it's a possibility that i fell on it and never realized. but it didn't pop and hurt until sunday night

it's almost all better now! i've been wearing the splint for four days now and the bruising is almost all gone and it doesn't hurt as much http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Wrist Injury

Sunday night I was sitting in bed, and I was talking with my hands, and my wrist popped.

All of sudden it hurt and started to puff up and turn blue. So I put ice on it and took some advil. The swelling went down and so I put this splint I have on it so I wouldn't jerk it around in my sleep.

I wake up monday morning and it looked like this:

72752_673836250070_47901870_36649646_5058117_n.jpg

So I go to the doctor - and at this point it only hurts at this one part on the side of the bone on my wrist. And the doctor tells me she doesn't think it's broken because I can still move it, and that I probably just popped a blood vessel - how she doesn't know. Tells me to ice it, but don't brace it because it was still very swollen

A few days later, and it still hurt. It is actually more bruised, hurts in more places and hurts more in that one place but the swelling has gone down.

I went yesterday to get it X-rayed, and the Dr. said she couldn't see a fracture, but she wasn't a radiologist so she was going to send it to a radiologist to read it, and they will get back to me on Monday.

If it isn't fractured, what the hell could it be? It hurts like a son of a bitch now, and the bruising got a little worse. The second dr. did tell me to wear my brace and ice it and take more advil.

Anyone ever have this happen? or have any clues? I'm a little freaked out.

Could you have dislocated it somehow, and popped it back in yourself?

Thats some wicked bruising you have...I tend to think its not broken either...

Get some Arnica for that bruising...you can buy Arnica cream at the chemist...and keep it immobile till you here back from the radiologist.

you could have a hairline fracture too, which are harder to see on X-Ray

Maybe a tendon done gone wrong. That looks pretty nasty.
