Default New to site and I have a few questions.
Good afternoon everyone.

Well this sunny weather is great but I now find myself with a wardrobe of summer clothes that do not fit.

I (like most of you) have ignored the gradual weight increase until I can ignore it no more.

It has become a big problem recently as I had to leave the gym a year ago as my husband and I both lost our jobs.

To cut a long story short - I eat plenty of fruit, veg and lean protein, I eat plenty of snacks - crisps, chocolate cake - Basically I eat PLENTY.

I did try Atkins in 2003 (along with every other person in the UK) - since then I lost weight and got in shape for my wedding (2007) - I have tried the Cambridge Diet, counting calories, slimming world, cereal diet. You name it - I now find myself being drawn back to Atkins - if memory serves correctly I lost weight, didn't feel hungry and enjoyed what I ate. I did miss fruit but I certainly used my carbs sensibly on veg.

So thats me - I love forums and I am happy to share.

My questions were related to some of the older posts I have just read re calculating 'net carbs' - my understanding (UK resident) was that you deducted the fibre content from the total carbs - but your posts suggest other wise.

Please could I have confirmation on this as it would make a huge difference when I am calculating strawberries and lettuce to my diet.

I was also wondering if there were any good online sources of menu ideas/receipes? Sorry if they are on here - I have spent ages reading posts but haven't come across them yet.

I hope to post some success - will start this time next week as this was a decision made today and I must plan, shop and remove (eat) carb laiden food first.

Hi I'm from Texas and i too have done low carb in the past and since gained all the weight back and then some. I have never joined a forum but i think this is just what the dr. ordered i hope to stay on track tomorrow marks 1 week and i have already started to see the results i have dropped 8lbs since Monday. I am so proud of myself because i have tried to start this diet for the past 3 years and just keep falling off the wagon. I wake up every morning asking God to give me strength to keep this up one more day and that helps me. I hope to find support on this forum because i truly need it i need all the help i can get.

Bluehex - oh that is depressing news that the fiber has been already removed. Oh well - that may explain the slow weight loss last time (2003) I did Atkins.

I have spent all afternoon re reading the book to refresh my memory and I have written a grocery list in anticipation on go food shopping at the end of the week.

Thats for the welcome and the advice.

Will go looking for food.receipe ideas that keep me interested.

Thanks again.

hi NG - i would give away the carb-laden food - don't eat it up just to get rid of it - it's a waste if it sits on your ass, as well as if you throw it away, right?

and it just means more sugar for your liver to get rid of.

good luck and welcome! to both of you!
