Default Anybody with Asthma?
How were diagnosed? What made you go into the doctor's?

I'm beginning to look around some and see what I might have. Asthma isn't far from the top of the list. I really cannot afford a doctor's visit, so I'd like to get an idea before I make a decision to go or not go.

I am asthmatic. My sister has it as well. I got sick with upper respiratory infections and stuff like phenoma and other sicknesses every two months until we found out the cause was Asthma.

i used to have it about 4-5 years back, i went to the doctors every so often for an allergy shot (about 1-2 years) and i stopped getting asthma. i had few asthma attacks when i younger and that's how we (my parents) figured out that i had it.

My wife and daughters have it. It can come from allergies. So sometimes it is treatable with allergen shots. But I am not sure if allergies are the norm. My oldest daughter had some terrible bouts with it. She played soccer and sometimes literally would be starving for air and in pain. kind of scary till you know what is going on. Inhalers had to be used right away. With my wife it would sometimes go into infections and get pretty severe like Ryder mentioned.

So pretty much, unless I can completely rule it out, I should go see a doc?

Right now, it's just this god awful cough. I've read that early signs of asthma can mimic cold symptoms though, so I'm beginning to wonder. The coughing fits I have are just unreal. I'll cough for about 5 minutes and it only stops because I can't breathe anymore to cough.

The thing is, right now, I really CANNOT afford it. I have about 100 dollars to my name (guessing high) and only have 11 hours scheduled next week, unless I can get into this second job quick. So much for my degree.

Go to the doctor. Sounds like asthma, and it sounds like you really need an inhaler. If you're that bad, they may put you on steroids for a bit as well or give you a breathing treatment.

The steroids won't be expensive, and it depends on the inhaler for the cost of that. Mine costs $102.

Even if it's not asthma, it does sound serious, and you need to have it checked out.

Also, check around to see if you have a free clinic in your area. I know it's not ideal, but it's an option if you have one close.

Matt is taking me to Patient First tomorrow. I started getting a fever earlier and I'm up to around 100. I usually run low 97s. They took my shift from me at work and almost sent me home from the meeting tonight.

have you thought about bronchitis or neumonia? a cold could get bad and then it takes u to first bronchitis then to neumonia, how did everything started when u started feeling sick? did u just had a cold and then it got worst?

I hope you feel better though, drink lots of fluids, and Vitamin C..

There are free clinics and all emergency rooms MUST by law treat you. I have COPD which encompasses most respiratory maladies...You should be looked at by a doctor.

I have considered pneumonia and bronchitis. It started out kinda cold-like about two or three weeks ago. That lasted about a week or so, but this cough is driving me crazy. I haven't stopped coughing since I got up. Well, since I started moving. I was good just laying there. So not looking forward to this.

My mother gets asthma with her yearly bronchitis. It's the cough-type asthma.

Sounds like you are getting sick hun, I had swine flu all last week pretty much and i have ashtma and it made me feel like i couldnt breathe, honestly the likely hood you have asthma and have never had any problems till now is very unlikely... so like i said you are most likely getting sick or worse case you made need to go see your doctor could be some underlining medical condition or something.

I have an appt on Monday with this clinic who bases your fee on your income. Should be pretty cheap for me, I'm technically well below the poverty level. Unfortunately, I have to wait a whole week! It's the first opening she had.
