Well I almost never took in silly carbs so that saved me some carbs.
As for the cheese, they have some carbs but they're minimal, 12 ounces of cheese is no more than 12 carbs if you eat the right cheese. As far as my build, yes I was and am starting to be rather muscular again. The nutritionist and doctor estimated my daily calorie deficit as being extremely high, probably around 4 thousand calories per day. If I were to take the time to list out all of my meals I think people would see they conformed to the Atkins plan, merely expanded because I had a much higher calorie need per day. I never suggested anyone else do this, and if you do, you had best be in the gym 3 hours a day cuz I'm pretty sure that's how I was able to pull it off. |

One of the reasons I love exercise is that its a great way to control the weight once you are in maintenance.
You can trim carbs and food intake to keep stable, but you can also add and subtract some gym time each week to keep things in check... plus it gets you out of the house. The gym I go to has a useable roof that has a track and some machines on top, so if it's super nice outside I go out there sometimes. Super fit... yes.... super trim... nah never. Kyp, several times now you have described, on the board, the portions you eat. And they don't even go close to "normal", regadless of what your definition of normal is. As someone who's no longer bulimic, I will say this : When not dieting, just eating and exercising minimally (1-2 hours every 2-3 days if even) [that's minimal to me, because I've been known to go 1-3 every day] I can easily put away 3000 calories and not gain a tenth of a pound (I am a 5'5, 21 y.o female). My calorie deficit is 1648; scientifically, I burn roughly 630 calories at work (and I work a lot); and when I do TurboJam or TaeBo, I burn between 700-1000 calories an hour. So I think that it is very possible for him to have a high calorie deficit and be able to put away high amounts of food (and cheese) and not gain anything, and all his numbers being really well. I'm trying to analyze how I was on Atkins before the accident, to see how exactly I pulled it off.
For reference I will give salient details. 2003 - Summer. 310lbs. Atkins over winter, long term induction phase not ending till spring of 2004. Ended induction and started maintenance at 185lbs. During that period I maintained a 1 hour weight lifting regimen identical to my high school plus 1 hour of cardio per day. I took saturdays and sundays off, and did only cardio on tuesday and thursday. I consumed large quantities of sugar free jello and diet soda with aspartame, so definitely aspartame isnt a staller for me. After I hit owl, I still maintained a low carbohydrate total, but I consumed massive quantities of food, yet fluctuated between 180 and 190lb for the next 3 years. For example, if there were burgers, it wasn't uncommon for me to eat 3 or 4 of the 1/2 lb burgers, and then eye other people's if they weren't attentive. A common weekly meal for me was a bowl of spinach with some low carb dressing, and another bowl of cooked hamburger meat ( 1lb ) with a chopped up block of muenster cheese ( 1 lb ) melted into it, with a half jar of mayo and half stick of butter melted into it, which I would consume with a spoon in one sitting. Sunday breakfast consisted of 10 eggs plus a half pound of cheddar cheese melted on it and some mayo, then tossed into a bowl. ( I eat my veggies too, dont worry people) A common snack for me during the day was a package of string cheese consisting of 12 ounces, and then in the afternoon a package of local butchery beef sticks also consisting of 12 ounces. I know that on Atkins you still should be watching the calories but for over 2 years I consumed about 4,000 calories a day while keeping my carbohydrates under 35 and watching the bad carbs like sugar, and the weight stayed off. I know that the exercise was the major factor here but I'm wondering why it is I had that kind of result. Oh and for the record, I took physicals every 6 months while doing that, and my numbers were spot on, including sodiums, cholesterol, in fact everything was perfect in terms of range for a healthy man in his 20's. Freakish, huh? |

It is pretty unbelievable that you were able to consume so much food and still maintain your weight. I wouldn't advise anyone else to try it that way.
For one thing, you should limit your cheese to 3 or 4 ounces per day. I'm not sure how you were able to limit your carbs to 35 per day and eat that much cheese and eggs along with your vegetables. Both eggs and cheese have carbs-- not many, but they add up in the quanitities you describe. Are you extraordinarily muscular? Muscle burns up a lot more calories than fat, so that could explain it. |

Karen, we can dream of eating like this as much as we can dream of being a 20-something year old man. LOL Your way of eating doesn't sound like anything I've read in any Atkins book, though... I'd consider this one of those "do not try this at home" things. |
