Hi,
I have tonsillitus and sinisitus and need to go on a course of antibiotics. I am in week 2 and seriously struggling at the minute for two reasons. One, I cannot really swallow and can't open my mouth properly and two I have completely lost my appetite. What can I do as I have been doing so well. Rgds Caroline |

Caroline... you're sick. Give your focus to getting better. Take the meds, get rid of the infections and THEN turn your focus back to weight loss. If it's hard to swallow... how about making some Crystal Light popsicles? Or get some sf ones. Have some broth/boullion to sip... and tea. I think chicken broth is the best thing for a sore throat because of the salt. You might also consider using protein shakes... whip them up in a blender with ice (or frozen CL "ice" cubes) for a soothing cool drink. You're still doing well.... just consider this time a "pause" in the action. Being sick is rough on the body, give it time.
Hope you feel better really soon. I hate being sick in the summer. {{{hugs}}} |

If you feel like being tough on them and trying to run atkins straight through,,, try to find out of the pills have sugar.
Besides, being sick doesn't mean you have to quit. I'm of a different opinion than other people. You can't DIE from a common sickness, ain't no reason to stop dieting when you get a wee bit sick. Scrambled eggs, whey protein isolate shakes, even if you HAVE to, get the Atkins milkshakes. Stick with it, you'll be happier if you do. Being sick shouldn't be able to stop you... don't let it. Just my 2 cents. |

Kyp... hope I didn't sound like I was saying to quit, I wasn't!!! Eating less while you're sick or using protein shakes isn't quitting. I certainly didn't tell her to eat ice cream or saltine crackers. LOL I was just saying, if you don't feel like eating, or it hurts to eat, have something low carb such as sf popsicles, protein shakes and broth! YIKES.. no, don't QUIT!!!

Hi Tril,
Thanks for all the encouragement, I have no intention of quitting I was just concerned the drugs would knock me out of ketosis, as I have been doing so well. I also didn't want to eat less than the 20g of carbs per day, but am struggling as I can't open my mouth properly or swallow. We in Ireland have a very limited range of lc produts and don't have Crystal Light, so I am sticking with water and lemon, and will make a chicken soup when I get home to ensure I get enough carbs into me. My whole attitude has changed to food and my outlook to life in the last 10 days has been much more pro-active and confident and happy, and I am not going to go back to the 'poor old me I cannot loose weight' person that I was. I think an early night and some TLC is needed. Talk soon C. |

Hi there! When I started atkins my first week on it I got strap throat. I was taking Halls Suger Free throat pills and I also was put on antiobiotics. I asked if there was suger and explained to the doctor what I was doing. He said there was no suger in antiobiotics. I thought it was going to mess up my weight loss but in did NOT at all.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the support, I am on day 3 of the antibiotics and starting to feel better. I made a beef consume and lived on that for the last 2 days and now I can start to eat solids again. But I did not give up, my thinkging was if I was able to eat ice cream with a sore throat (not that I actually did eat it !) then I was able to eat some healthy home made soup. Heres to seeing less of me this week ! Rgds Caroline |
