Default bread sticks?
I would like to cut out the breadstick snack from my food for the day. I have trouble with any kind of flour (including wheat flour) I tend to not be able to stop at one. I ate one yesterday but I noticed it was hard not to have another.

I'm the same way. I'm on my second round day 17 and I haven't even them once. I can't stop at one either. I noticed I'm losing faster this round without them

Hi everyone,
ladibug is right. I have been through 4 successful rounds, so has my daughter. We never ate the breadsticks or melba toast, stayed as true to the original protocol that we could otherwise and lost 70 lbs each and have kept it all off!

Even when off the protocol we rarely eat bread and those types of carbs now - just dont want them. Contrary to what we have been told, people really dont need grains and often do much better without them.

I agree. Back in Dr. Simeons day, he didn't have the research available that we have now on grains. Even then, he wasn't overly enthusiastic about their use. I've never seen any of the veterans on this forum recommend them. I think that the general consensus is that you are better off without them.

So true TXSweetcorn,
Grains cause many, many problems, not just weight gain.

My brother was diagnosed as a diabetic a year ago. He was only about 30 lbs overweight. He was rushed to the ER with high blood pressure caused by the then undiagnosed diabetes. He had not been to a doctor in over 6 years. He came to me about what to do to get his sugars down. His A1C was over 10. And his fasting glucose was up around 200. I put him on a paleo type diet with NO sugars, NO starches, NO grains of any kind. He ate high fat, protein and non-starchy vegetables. 6 months later his weight was down 40 lbs, his blood work is phenomenal and his sugars stay in non-diabetic ranges without meds. His doctors are astounded. He still eats that way but with an occasional treat such as a bread roll, but stays away from sugar.

Just an anecdote to show how abstaining from grains and sugars can turn some illnesses completely around.

I am only 16 days into the diet but I have not had a sinlge breadstick or piece of toast. I know I will want more and it will increase my hunger so I have stayed away from them completely. Good luck!

Recommend Gary Taubes, "Good Calories, Bad Calories" for a comprehensive look at the dangers of simple carbohydrates (sugars/refined grains). They are implicated in a whole range of what he calls "diseases of civilization" including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimers. It's meticulously researched and, sometimes, a little over my head, but still a great read. It's quite interesting that societies in remote areas that continue to live on their traditional diets rarely suffer from any of this, including cancer. Taube quotes doctors in Africa from early in the 20th century who never saw a case of cancer despite spending many years treating the local population.

That said, I don't think an occasional bread stick is going to kill anyone. I ate them occasionally in P2 with no problem. However, I gave up fruit and that really kick started my weight loss. In any event, I'll probably never go back to regular consumption of wheat or refined sugar. I can get my bread fix using some of the pretty decent replacements we have these days including almond and coconut flour.
