Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone is taking the supplement SAMe / SAM-e while on hCG Protocol? If so, have you found it helpful or more of a hinder on your results? How are you feeling taking it? I have ordered it as a friend recommended it for depression (but it has other benefits) as she has been using it and it has helped her immensely. I would love to hear from anyone who have tried it and what your thoughts on it are. Thanks, Bonnie |

I take SAM-e for arthritis and I find it helps me. I just started the HCG so can't say if there is any difference. I'd say keep taking it and see how you feel in a month or so. There are a lot of good self help books out there. You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay is an excellent book and I think every woman would benefit from reading it. Good luck and keep up the good weight loss.

I take SAM-e and haven't had any issues. The big thing with SAM-e is to make sure that you take your B vitamins. SAM-e always works better with the B's. Most people notice huge difference with depression within 3 days of starting it. I personally love it

Hi, ![]() Love your quote BTW ![]() ETA that it can cause upset stomach so while on HCG I'd take it with one of your meals. When on P3 you should take it with your morning meal. |

As long as it's not an oil, it's okay. Most people with depression feel better on the hcg diet though. You haven't been? ![]() |

Thanks guys for you input.
Not really feeling any better per se. I'm not feeling terrible terrible but just not feeling any better. I tried 5htp in the past and it did nothing for me. Haven't started the SAM-e yet but am looking forward to, once I get it in the post. I should probably start taking B vitamins again, what is the best way to take them? a shot, a pellet, a spray, a tablet? Which specific B vitamin (I know there are a few different ones). Thirteenblessings, Thanks. I saw the quote and thought; that is perfect for me... lets just say I am a little eccentric ![]() Thanks again, Bonnie |

Question for all you SAM-e users.
What mg dosage are you on? Do you take it all in one dose or take half in the morning and half in the afternoon/evening? I got mine the other day and started taking it straight away. I have been taking 400mg a day for 5 days now (hoping to help with depression and low moods/energy etc). Should I be taking more than 400mg?? Also, how long did it take before you noticed a difference? A few days? weeks? months? Thanks a bunch, x Bon |

I've taken it before but I have found (for me) that 5HTP works better and is half the price. I do start developing an immunity to it after about a month, in which case I take a week off, then start again. I have not found that 5HTP affects the effectiveness of the HCG. It might increase it in fact because it's said to help ward off carb cravings. ![]() Having said that, I've just started reading the book Depression-free Naturally by J. Matthews Larson and she advises AGAINST 5-HTP in favor of tryptophan. The book's from 1999 and apparently, at the time tryptophan was banned in the USA because I've seen it available on iherb.com recently (as L-tryptophan). Anyhoo, I'm quoting her comment from the book: "A supposedly *safe* form of tryptophan, 5HTP, is now available over the counter, but while 5HTP raises the serotonin levels in the body, little is admitted to the brain unless another drug, carbidopa, accompanies it. (In Europe, 5HTP is used with carbidopa.) [my comment: I don't know anything about that!] And too much serotonin around the heart will do the same damage as we saw with fen-phen (fenfluramine, diet pills), wich raised serotonin levels in the body, causing serious heart damage and death! Warning: Use tryptophan, not 5HTP, to be safe. [author's emphasis] (Larson 1999, p. 27) If you're looking into supplements for depression, then B6 and high doses of Niacin (B3) are the ones to look out for, B6 at a recommended dose of 75 mg and Niacin from 100 mg/d upwards. It has to be the 'flushing' version, not Niacinamide. Here's a good article: Niacin Therapy as Used by Abram Hoffer, M.D. Further, L-Tyrosine is an amino acid which has been shown to be as effective as SSRIs without the side effects (there's a warning it shouldn't be taken if you're taking MAO inhibitors for depression or have malignant melanoma). In fact, Larson (Depression-free) list a ton of amino acids for specific mental health problems, e.g. - depression: (L-)phenylalanine, tyrosine, dopa - anxiety: glycine, taurine, histidine, GABA - OCD: methionine - exhaustion, high stress levels: phenylalanine, glutamine - muddled thinking, fogginess: glutamic acid as well as vitamins and minerals but I haven't got that far in the book yet ![]() |

Question for all you SAM-e users. I always notice the difference within 3 days. But they say it can take up to a month. Make sure that the brand you are taking is standardized, I cant stress that enough. |
