I went through round 1 fine (40 days). Soon after completing I began noticign hair loss in the shower. I began round 2 (only plan to do a 23 day) a week ago and my hair is still falling out in clumps. I'm thinking about stopping the HCG, as I'm really worried about my hair falling out. My hair thinned out a lot when I went through menopause and while most people would say my hair looks think, I know it is much thinner than it was.
Does your hair grow back after completing or stopping the HCG? If so, how long until it begins growing back. I'm really worried!! |

hi kimg
I am going to respond to this since I had this issue and I had so much BAD info given to me when it happened. I thought I was going nuts. My hair was fine, then as soon as I stop the HCG, bam! Hair loss, and I got all kinds of well wishers telling me I was not taking good vitamins, or increase b12 or I had stress... blah,...spoke to a doc and this is what he told me... When you take HCG your body floods with estrogen, thinking it is pregnant. When you stop it now thinks its done being pregnant, so you begin to have all those excessive hormones pulled from your body, and you go through the same thing you do after you have a baby, and for a lot of us that means hair loss. It is fine when you have a mob of hair as I did when I was 27, not so fine now that I am in my 40's and I have thyroid issues and thinner hair. It did not last long for me, and now that I started R2 my hair started to really kick in again so I know this to be true, because my hair and nails look great and I am back on a VLCD, but I know a lady who lost almost 50 percent of her hair after HCG so it is good knowing this can happen and being PREPARED for it. I take a huge regiment of vitamins (Pro-femma, sub lingual b12, trace minerals like potassium and magnesium and calcium, fish oil (yes even on p2), d3, coq10, l-carnitine, and a specific one for my hair and nails that has biotin.) But NOTHING worked until I went and bought extra strength rogaine, mixed with a little low percent reten A (very little). My hair began to get thicker again, thank goodness...but until I started r2 I worried about it and almost DID not start r2 because I did not know if I wanted to lose my hair again now that it was starting to re-grow... However as soon as I started r2 my hair now looks awesome...long story short, Doc say I need more estrogen/progestrone when I am done with HCG and I will start the rogain again probably the last week I am on this round and will keep it up until I do r3. There are a few benefits to having a doc to talk to when doing this diet, this was one of them. I almost quit because of this issue. |

Thank you so much Kelrivis! Your reply was extremely helpful. I've been taking vitamins and Biotin for my hair. I don't expect to do a Round 3 of HCG. Once I finish round 2 of the hcg, I guess I'll still need to use the Rogaine for a while, but do I have to use Rogaine forever? or will my hair grow back in and go back to normal? Do you know how long it takes to where I won't have to worry about my hair and everything will be normal again? Please respond.

Do your own research and talk with a dermatologist or personal doc first if you can, because you may have lots of issues that prevent you from doing this...
But probably just one or two 3 month supply of Rogaine cycle should do it if you have no other prevailing issues for hair loss. My hair started getting better in 3 months, so no its not a forever thing (your hormones do return to normal just like after pregnancy)...unless you are a man and its that time in your life (sorry nothing will help that but a toupee lol) .025 mg strength Retin A. Just a very "tiny dot" (less than a half a pinky nail?) added to the spot of Rogaine recommended you mix into your scalp when it is towel dried after you shower (the amount of Rogaine the package recommends). Be careful because Reten A can irritate your skin and stay out of the sun. Higher strength Reten A has to be cut down ALOT (use even less). Be sure to wash your hands and do not touch your face afterwards for a while(seriously Rogaine has been known to make hair grow on your face if you are not careful...lovely). I have hair coloring gloves I use for this purpose. You might want to just start with Rogaine to be sure it does not irritate your skin and then go slowly with the reten A after a week. Stop if you get any serious reaction. And remember Homeopathy teaches us that more (at one time) is not better...less (applied) and longer (time used) is usually better. Also anything that you can do to increase estrogen/progestrone levels in your body will help as well. Provided that you do not have any cancer issues the topical estrogen/progestrone bioidentical creams used daily 14 days out of the month may help as well. I am going on them once I am done with r2. |

Thank you kelrivas, mom2two and philliesluvr!
Your feedback and information helps me feel a little better, that my hair will stop falling out and grow back, but I am still worried. My hair is really coming out pretty heavy, while I love how fast I'm losing the weight from 165 between 1st round and now into 2nd round @ 142. I worry about my hair. Still not sure what to do. I don't have any medical problems. Seems like even if I stop now, my hair is still going to fall out! When I went through menopause, my hair thinned out quite a bit, it didn't grow back. It is still thick, but not like before. Now I'm losing again due to HCG hormones and I'm worried it won't come back and my hair will be thinner than ever. |

I'd like to add some more information to this. Kelrivas answer is very good. I am a Cosmetologist, and I can add another piece of the puzzle to the "why" it happens.
Every strand of hair on your head has it's own life cycle, which consists of 3 separate stages, Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. Anagen stage is the growth phase. While in this phase, the hair strand grows at a rate of about 1/2 inch per month (scalp hair) for a period of from 2 to 8 years. How long your hair stays in Anagen phase is determined by genetics, but now you can understand why some people can grow their hair to their rear (their hairs live many years before shedding), while others can't seem to grow it past their shoulders even if they never cut it (their hairs live far fewer years before shedding) - it's dependent on how long of an Anagen stage you were blessed with. Eventually, the growth of an individual hair slows and stops. Now it has entered the Catagen stage. The Catagen stage lasts about 2 weeks. During this stage, the hair loosens in the follicle and falls out, resulting in normal shedding. The now-empty follicle will remain empty and dormant for a period of 1 - 4 months. That is the Telogen stage. Eventually, a new hair will begin to grow, and the follicle is back to the Anagen stage. The hairs on your head are each doing their own thing, in a myriad pattern all over your head. They are not all on the same stage. One hair will be in Anagen, while the hair right next to it will be in Catagen or Telogen. At any time, about 85% of your scalp hairs are in Anagen, 10-15% are in Telogen. NORMAL SHEDDING is 80 to 100 hairs a day. So, with that understanding, here's what pregnancy hormones do: Hair stays in Anagen stage. The 80 to 100 hairs a day that would normally enter the catagen stage and shed, do not. Once the pregnancy is over, however, all those hair follicles that had remained in the Anagen stage, get thrown into Catagen stage all at once, resulting in what seems to be abnormally heavy shedding. This is not the same as balding. The hair loss is not permanent - these follicles will complete their Catagen and Telogen stages and begin to grow new hairs, and eventually, over time, everything gets back to normal, of a random, myriad pattern of the 3 stages occurring all over the scalp. Now the next part is speculative on my part, but if hCG fools the body into thinking it's pregnant, it would be my guess that this is also the cause of excessive shedding once a long course of hCG is ended. Hairs that would normally have entered the catagen stage at the rate of 80 to 100 a day, remained in the anagen stage during the "pregnancy", and now have all been thrown into the catagen stage at once. Hope this knowledge will relieve some of the worry about hair losses on hCG. It happens, but is not permanent. |

Wow kajola that is awesome, thank you that really helps.
philles rogaine is otc, but reten A is RX (my derma gave me a couple of tubes he had as samples), but its low percent cousin, retinol is otc, you just have to find a product like Daily Orange that you can add a little into your shampoo or rogaine, but be careful because you want a product that dissolves easily and not a cream base that defeats the DHT blocker (the action of rogaine). kimg if you are middle age I can not stress the need to get more hormone balanced if you can afford it. I do not think hCG causes more problems, I just think it highlights what is already coming in menopause. For me I feel better on bio-identical hormone creams, and when I take hCG I get the same "good" feeling (I don't do them at the same time). But when I end it I get the same issues as when I stop creams, so I know so much of this is hormone based. Its a big reason why I am having issue with hhcg being pulled off the market, because I feel like the government is trying to limit our options of taking care of our self and forcing us all on the path of drugs...and paying through the nose for it sorry just my view, hCG is the first thing in a long time that has given me control and once I am off it I will need to figure out a way to stay in control with out medications |
