Jan, who is a founding Pioneer member and also a nurse sent me the following: Thanks Jan!
In my researching Ashitaba, before I ordered it, this is some of what I found including the vitamin list and values. Ashitaba contains a vast spectrum of beneficial properties and a unique array of phytonutrients, including 11 vitamins, 13 minerals, chlorophyll, enzymes, carotene, germanium, saponins, proteins, plant fibers, glycosides, courmarins, and a potent, rare class of flavonoids called chalcones. Ashitaba's rich chlorophyll content helps purify the blood, detoxify the organs and alkalinize the body. Chlorophyll is also called "green blood" because its structure is very similar to human blood. Ashitaba's natural content of organic germanium promotes the body's production of interferon, a key defense substance against harmful viruses and bacteria. Germanium also helps purify the blood by increasing oxygen, creating an alkaline pH and activating blood cell replacements. Ashitaba contains a wealth of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, including beta-carotene, vitamin C, calcium, iron and potassium. Ashitaba also contains vitamin B12, not typically produced in plants. Vitamin B12 has been recognized for its ability to promote the production of blood cells, increase attention span and concentration, increase the production of growth hormone and promote the integrity of the immune system. Note that these values were based on 100g and what we take is 60g, so the value of each would be a little less. Composition of Nutrients - "PERCENT" Ashitaba Products (100g) Constituent Content Vitamin A 21300IU Vitamin B1 1.15mg Vitamin B2 1.97mg Vitamin B6 1.11mg Vitamin B12 0.04 ug Vitamin C 330mg Vitamin E 25.6mg Biotin (Vitamin H) 28.5 ug Food Fiber 28.1g Total Carotene 38.3mg Manganese 216mg Pantothenic Acid 3.48mg Calcium 478mg Iron 31.9mg Potassium 4.06g Sodium 365mg Protein 36.8mg The above analysis was done by the Japan FDA OS (28030263) Note from Barb: The supplier we use, showed a 17% increase of these values over the Japanese ashitaba. She had it tested at an independent lab and attributes it to the fact that she processes within 24 hours of harvesting and in Japan they take up to two weeks in some instances to process after harvest. Jan also answered a question for Jeannine who said her sats went up after drinking ashitaba. It has organic germanium in it that helps purify the blood by increasing oxygen, creating an alkaline pH and activating blood cell replacements. This should explain the increase in your 02 saturation. Jan |

Ashitaba purifies the blood so the blood flows more easily which lowers blood pressure. The chlorophyll and B12 found in ashitaba helps build new hemoglobin (red blood cells). More red blood cells results in more oxygen in the blood and better cell function in all organs and muscles, including the heart according to Dr. Howard Peiper. N.D.
I like the powdered form because I find it soothing to drink it like tea. I use one teaspoon per cup of very hot water. I drink this first thing in the morning before eating. I have my second cup before dinner or at bedtime. One package is 60 grams. It is also available in tincture form for those that don't like the grittiness of the tea or simply don't have time to make tea. The tincture is also good if there is no place to make tea such as a road trip. One bag or bottle should last close to a month. The equivalent to the FDA in Japan has evaluated this product and the results are pretty amazing. In our country, supplements are not evaluated so there is no data from our FDA and it cannot be said that this product cures, prevents, treats or diagnoses anything. All I know is that I really look forward to tea time! Visit our site www.seachangeforlife.com and there is more about it on there. |

I had a nice thing happen to me today. I went to my Optimist Club meeting and one of the members who had not been there for a month, sat down and suddenly said to me, "Your skin looks really good". I was taken aback and then said, "It must be the Ashitaba". Of course, no one had ever heard of it, so now next week at the meeting I am to give a little talk on what it is. I started drinking Ashitaba tea on March 21, two times a day and a couple of weeks ago, I decided to try the face tonic. This is not an infomercial, it really did happen and I was quite pleased as my mug could use some help. Now, I will no longer be able to scare little kids on Halloween.

Sorry for such an unprompt reply, but my computer has been acting up all day. It should not cause you any great problems, but just to be on the very safe side, why not wait until you are either at your destination or until you get back home. I didn't notice anything but a calmness and some better breathing and a little stomach grumble the first day.

Hi Bev
I believe the powder form and tincture are fairly equal in potency. HOwever, the lady who grows the Ashitaba says that the grainy particles are the most important part of using Ashitaba. I've used both and haven't noticed any less effect. I also tried the Ageless vitality drink (more expensive and includes Stevia as a natural sweetener) and it also appears to be of equal potency. Ashitaba will NOT cause any diarrhea. If you suffer from heartburn or GERD after about a week of taking Ashitaba you will notice that the heartburn/pain will be reduced considerably if not gone completely. I was a regular Tums popper and had a bottle at my desk, on my nighstand and one on the end table in the living room. I haven't taken a Tums or a Prilosec in weeks. Hope this helps |

I'm sorry Bev. I guess both Jeannine and I somehow missed your post. Yes, the tincture works the same as the powder. You can take it right out of the eye dropper or mix it in something. I like the tea myself and Jeannine likes the ease of the tincture. The chlorophyll and B12 found in ashitaba helps build new red blood cells. More red blood cells results in more oxygen in the blood and better cell function in all organs and muscles, including the heart. Don't worry if the name sounds foreign to you, I had never heard of it either until Larry (lraynac) sent me something on it. I tried it and it worked great for me. That's when I sent some to Jeannine, got my cat, dog, husband, mom, son on it and they all seem to be benefiting. My cat is very noticeable in his improvements. He has hyperthyroidism and the ashitaba has calmed him down considerably and he is gaining a little weight. I am losing a little so it seems to help in whatever direction you need it to.

I think the tincture and the powder are equally good. When the powder is put into a teabag form, this is where you lose some of the potency because the grittiness has a lot of the important nutrients and the bag would block the flow of some of the ashitaba. I like to relax and have a cup of the tea, but the tincture is perfect if you don't like swamp water or if you are a person on the go or are traveling. I think that is great that Jeannine has been able to give up the Tums and Prilosac. I need to give up desserts, but I haven't seen that it works for that.

All I know is that if I had come to this site this morning, I wouldn't have had to call Jeannine to ask basically, the same question: How do I take the tincture? I didn't know if it was ok to mix it with anything. It was nice talking to you though, Jeannine!!!!
And Barb----nobody needs to give up desserts!!!! How silly!!!! Desserts are our "rewards"> (That's MY story----and I'm stickin' to it!!!) ![]() |

I have to agree with you about desserts. I just got back from lunch. I had the veggie plate which consisted of my choice of 4 vegetables and a BIG HUGE chocolate dessert. I will repent another day. By the way, those with chronic and compromised conditions would probably do well to stick to the 16 drops or 1 tsp of powder each serving, twice a day. If you feel like you can, you can then reduce the dosage, but according to the supplier, you should stick with the higher amounts for the first several months. This is true with the colostrum also. You can use 1-2 tsp per serving, 3 times a day and even increase to 1 TBS per serving, 3 times a day. The very high 1TBS dose should be maintained for 2 weeks and then drop down again to the lower 1-2 tsps. The supplier says he uses the higher dosage if he is under stress or if he feels like he needs an extra boost from time to time. Speed skater Apolo Anton Ono is a customer of his and look at that guy!

Now Bev, This is going to mean 2 teaspoons a day of the ashitaba for you with no water. Just nice and dry and gritty. Or maybe I will let you sprinkle it on something like chocolate pudding. Yum, Yum, Yum. I will try not to get caught by you again! You have a nice weekend too and to all you moms out there -
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! |
