Default Atkins products for P3?
So this morning looking at protein shakes that are available at my Walmart, since closest health store is an hour away. Didn't find one that didn't have sugar or maltodextrin, ugh. Seriously considered getting the Jillian Michaels? powder anyway just to add some vanilla flavor to my smoothies.
So while looking for that, I spotted Atkins snack bars. Wondering if once I am in P3 if I can have any of those if I get a sweet craving? sub instead of candy? I always used Fiber one bars to get rid of cravings for sweets before starting HCG. Helped keep things moving to boot,LOL. Less calories too.
Not really familiar with Atkins. Trying to read up a bit on it but thought maybe someone here would be familiar with it?

I have used the Pure Protein Vanilla Shake, also from Wal-Mart, mixed with water and ice on P2 and had some of my best loss days on those days. So I will continue them on P3.

I tried the Jillian Michaels Vanilla shake on P3 mixed with Vanilla Almond Milk during my last round and did fine with it. Tried the Chocolate too, it was ok but I love the Vanilla. I switched to the Pure Protein because it has more protein in it and you get more for the money (I think), but it does have more calories, 140 compared to 100. They are both made by the Pure Protein brand and taste pretty much the same to me. So anyway my body likes it but everyone is different.

I did not try the bars but I'd love to hear if someone has.

Has anyone tried the Quest Bars? They are made with very few ingredients, and the ingredients are all natural, not a bunch of chemicals. The best part is, they are high-protein, high-fiber, and low-carb. I have a crazy work schedule and had trouble getting enough protein in P3, so a protein bar really saved the day sometimes. I was afraid to try the Atkins bars or any of the others I found locally, but I read about the Quest Bars online and decided to try them. They are very good, and did not hamper my stabilization. In fact, I lost 8 lbs in P3. I haven't tried all the flavors, but the chocolate brownie flavor, warmed in the microwave, is to die for! You can find out about them on their website, but they are cheaper to buy from Netrition.

Thanks all!
I had already been in Walmart longer than I wanted so didn't really read ingredients on any of the Atkins bars. Some just looked good and I had read some people following Atkins in P3 to maintain.
I hate the idea of having to ship something in and adding to the cost. Maybe when I get a chance I will check Walmart online and see if I can get free shipping to the store?
Now I will also have to check out those Quest bars!!! Sounds yummy! I've never been much of a candy eater but want something for those once in awhile cravings that will kill the craving yet not destroy everything I am working for. I do LOVE brownies!

I think you'll be surprised at some of the crap in those Atkins products. I would not eat them. I was also reading a couple atkins boards and somebody mentioned that a lot of the regulars did not do well with them. Either stalled or gained. Color me so not surprised.

you can check the ingredients here: http://www.atkins.com/Products.aspx

Thanks!
I guess I will have to figure out something else for those times that I want something quick and sweet to eat. I wish I had as much control normally that I have while on HCG. If I did though, I wouldn't be where I am. I wish there was something like the HCG that could be taken all the time that would kill my appetite yet not have side effects that tend to come along with appetite suppressants.

Go to your local organic market or health food store and check out what they have. Talk to the staff. Or check out the organic section(s) of local supermarkets.

I find that, if I eat solid meals based on fatty protein, I don't want to snack, so the need for those items disappears.

try the jay robb egg white or whey protein powder - depending on whether or not you want soy. both are made with stevia/erythritol/xylitol which is okay. get the vanilla and then add some berries. not too bad. or use 0% fage and make a smoothie.

marieT- most of them are highly processed, so that's obviously not the best for you overall, although there are times where they are better than nothing. i do keep bars in the car in case i end up being out too long and i don't have other options. some people can get away with atkin's stuff, others can't. the quest are better but they do have splenda in them, so you have to be ok with that. i've eaten doctor's carbrite bars without a problem but many don't like the taste. i prefer the chocolite bars (especially the peanut butter ones) because they are chewy (something i crave), and gluten-free. They manage to make a decent tasting bar with no sugar and only 4 gm of sugar alcohols. Many have much higher sugar alcohol content and it can not only make people gain, but can cause all kinds of GI stress so proceed with caution!

Back when I was doing Atkins, what I kept in my bag in case of emergency was a pouch of tuna with a few packets of mayonnaise. It was the least of the evils I could come up with so that I could stay on my plan at all times without making excuses.

If the "need" for the bars is about having something resembling candy that won't derail your plan, save it for P4 and then have a small amount of real candy.

Wow! thanks for all the responses!
Haunted, I live in a rural community so my options for organic is raising our own beef or chicken or pig for the most part. Veggies, there are 2 farmers markets but the items are limited based on what is grown locally. Checking labels on things in the grocery store that state they are "sugar" free and then finding dextrose or maltodextrin in them is aggravating. Plus as some of come to find out, just cause it states All Natural on the packaging is a joke. I've been watching it all and taking forever on my grocery trips but it's better than shopping blind.
Carolina, I am a meat eater and don't crave sweets or even chocolate often but there are times. I wonder about just eating normal candy if I have a craving and just be done with it instead of eating something like a Atkins bar that is loaded with god knows what by the listing of ingredients so thanks for that!
Puglover, I was hoping to find a cheaper option since I will have to have something shipped in. Hate to spend a chunk and then get it and can't stand it. I will have to try to find a health food store next time I go out of town and hope I can find some place with sample sizes. I don't mind paying for something if I know its not gonna go to waste.
mgsondance, this is exactly part of the reasoning too. I work an hour from home and there are times all I need is something to hold me til I get home. The fiber one bars took care of several things for me. Fill me up for a bit and killing a candy craving for about 150 calories vs almost 300 for a candy bar. Plus the fiber helped keep me regular but not so much that it hurt my gut. Guess I will check out the ingredient list on the fiber one bars too and see how they compare now that I am learning more about the processed crap.

I'm a real food advocate. If you have a big craving for chocolate, get yourself a small amount of the best kind of chocolate you can, without all the crap in the Atkins bars, enjoy it, and move on. I think that is better than eating the SF chocolates, with their illusion of safety. When I think I can delude myself that something like that is okay to eat, I'm more likely to abuse it than when I eat the real stuff. The real stuff keeps me honest about how much I consume.

Also, Marie, if you are regularly finding the need to have something to tide you over until you get home, making sure you have more solid meals would seem to me to be a more reasonable solution.

Thanks to both of you
I agree about the regular candy. Sometimes a substitute can just make you want more and then you consume more than if you had just ate what you wanted. I will have to remember that. Of course candy doesn't taste as good as it did when I was a kid. Except some of those expensive chocolate bars they have out now.
As far as more filling meals, I plan to try the leptin reset after I am done with the HCG phases and at my true goal. I have always felt full longer after eating meat where if I ate an apple trying to eat more healthy, I would be hungry 10 minutes later. Seems a lot of veggies don't agree with me either. Just kills my stomach. Mostly raw broccoli, cauliflower, and avocados! Bad to crave an avocado only to have it wish you could just double over and fall out in the floor!
Eating after all the dieting is gonna prove interesting to say the least.

I ate atkins bars and shakes in P3 & P4 without any issues. However, I stuck with the basic bars in P3 not the endulge. I also liked the ThinkThin bars and did well with those too. Some may not agree with eating these but ultimately it's a personal choice and depends on how your body reacts to them. Good luck.
