So my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. We have been for almost a year and a half. I had 2 miscarriages this year and was the reason I decided to start HCG. I felt so guilty over the the losses that I felt it was my weight, since I was at my highest weight EVER! I knew I just had to do something. HCG was the answer. The HCG Diet has been the best decision I have ever made.
I am currently on P2 on VLCD18 after a 9 day planned interruption. My total dose day(pre PI to now) is 45. I just ovulated at the beginning of the week and will be testing in 2 weeks. I am a POAS(pee on a stick) addict but am holding out this time becuase I don't want heartbreak again. haha So my question is: Let's say God answers my prayers and I get pregnant this cycle.... obviously I will have to stop the drops, but because I am going to be producing my own REAL HCG, will I still lose weight? Of course I will up my calories. Would i go straight back to normal eating or should I eat P3 and work up to P4? I'm not sure what to do. |

I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Sometimes women that have multiple miscarriages have underlying clotting issues that can be managed with medication. It's not all women and miscarriages but some doctors don't know to test for them. I hope everything works out the way you want and I'm definately saying prayers for a sticky baby!

If you are trying to conceive I would up your calories to a safer level now. I know this level with the hcg is fine for non pregnant women but you don't know what the results would be eating 500 cal for the first 2-4 weeks of a pregnancy, it's not a chance I would take. Many people lose fine on higher calories so I would raise them at least to 800 while trying to conceive, even if you lost a little slower the babies safety would be worth it. Also wouldn't hurt to add in a folic acid supplement now. I don't know if we have any OBs on the board but I'd get some professional advice before I continued on 500 cal trying to get pregnant.
Hope everything works out for you. |

Prenatal vitamins are a good idea. The calorie thing isn't a big deal because that's what hcg does in a pregnant woman, releases the calories for the baby to use when the mother can't keep any food down with morning sickness. But it doesn't hurt anything to add the calories since you're more concerned with getting pregnant than with losing weight.

As Colleen said, the calories aren't a major factor if you've got some fat stores to burn. I lost 10 lbs my first trimester because of violent morning sickness (really all day sickness) and my baby was just fine. At this point, the folic acid is the most important thing. If you've been TTC for a while, I'm sure you're already taking that anyway. Good luck to you with this cycle. :-)

Pounds and inches discusses this about women getting pregnant while on protocol and having to discontinue. To be sure you are pregnant, I think Dr. S said to stop the injections for 3 days and then re-test on pregnancy stick, hopefully the hcg would have just about cleared from your system. if it comes up positive then confirm with your GYN. But being pregnant YOU absolutely cannot continue the diet, and taking the shots makes NO sense as we produce way more times that amount of hcg during pregnancy doesn't make sense. My input...You should increase you calories after the three days and after testing and confirming you are pregnant. Then possibly start to eat very healthy, organic if possible, eat mostly P3 but incorporate some whole grains, brown complex carb, brown rice, sweet potatoes and wheat pasta if you are not allergic. See a nutritionist as well and definitely start taking pre-natal vitamins. Keep a healthy lifestyle, you might even continue to lose or you might maintain your weight...its hard to tell. It depends on your body and how it does on these foods. Good luck below is the info from P and I quotations. And some ino on pregnancy and obesity in pounds and Inches.
Menstrual Interruption "The fourth type of interruption is the one which often occurs a few days before and during the menstrual period and in some women at the time of ovulation. It must also be mentioned that when a woman becomes pregnant during treatment - and this is by no means uncommon - she at once ceases to lose weight. An unexplained arrest of reduction has on several occasions raised our suspicion before the first period was missed. If in such cases, menstruation is delayed, we stop injecting and do a precipitation test five days later. No pregnancy test should be carried out earlier than five days after the last injection, as otherwise the HCG may give a false positive result." Pregnancy and Obesity "Once this trail was opened, further observations seemed to fall into line. It is, for instance, well known that during pregnancy an obese woman can very easily lose weight. She can drastically reduce her diet without feeling hunger or discomfort and lose weight without in any way harming the child in her womb. It is also surprising to what extent a woman can suffer from pregnancy-vomiting without coming to any real harm. Pregnancy is an obese woman's one great chance to reduce her excess weight. That she so rarely makes use of this opportunity is due to the erroneous notion, usually fostered by her elder relations, that she now has “two mouths to feed” and must “keep up her strength for the coming event. All modern obstetricians know that this is nonsense and that the more superfluous fat is lost the less difficult will be the confinement, though some still hesitate to prescribe a diet sufficiently low in Calories to bring about a drastic reduction." |

I agree. She may not be pregnant. I would wait for a week to ten days after a missed period to start to investigate as well. But if she has already been late for a while then I would stop the hcg, test after a few days and then see a OB-GYN to confirm. I do know some people on RX inj have seen faint false positive on Pg stick. It can be mis-leading. But the good thing is that taking HCg for those days I don't suspect would harm the baby if she finds out she is pregnant. Either way good luck and I wish her good news

Don't know if some of the questions were related to me or if they were to Ragda.
I am taking a good quality prenantal, B6, iron, and a baby aspirin daily(recommended by my fertility specialist) along with a few other supplements and have for a long time. I guess I should have added that I have PCOS(DX in oct 2007), usually only have TOM 3 or 4 times a year, but have been having a regular cycle for almost a year since we got serious with TTC and started clomid and other supplements. I do have 2 other children as well and had no issues getting or staying pregnant with them. I never even had a miscarriage until this year. My OB/GYN was actually the one who recommended that I lose weight to possibly increase my chances of getting and staying pregnant. My fertility specialist agreed and said his wife did the HCG diet and had great success. Plus I knew some friends that were doing it and were also doing great. I'm not too concerned about the calories at this point because I was severely sick with my son in the beginning and barely kept anything down and know for sure that I didn't eat 500 calories a day because everything would come right back up. ![]() My question is: let's say i get a + tomorrow, should I immediately stop my drops and up my calories? should i immediately up them to a maintenence level or work my way up to 15-1800 cal/day. You don't need extra calories in your frist trimester and even after that only 300 calories/day. Will I continue to lose when i first get PG even if I up my calories because of the increase in HCG? |
