Regular workout is useless if you're also a couch potato

I read the article Gym benefits undone by too much sitting - Health - Fitness - msnbc.com and wanted to share it here. Here are some quotes from the article:

Hitting the gym every day might do little to decrease your risk of death if you spend the rest of your time sitting down, a new study suggests. Women who reported more than six hours per day of sitting (outside of work) were 37 percent more likely to die during the time period studied than those who sat fewer than three hours a day. Men who sat more than six hours a day (also outside of work) were 18 percent more likely to die than those who sat fewer than three hours per day. The association remained virtually unchanged after adjusting for physical activity level. Associations were stronger for cardiovascular disease mortality than for cancer mortality.

When combined with a lack of physical activity, the association was even stronger. Women and men who both sat more and were less physically active were 94 percent and 48 percent more likely to die during the study period, respectively, compared with those who reported sitting the least and being most active.
Some people might think that it's okay to sit around all day if they still manage to have a steady workout regimen. This new study proves them wrong.

Oh really? Well, after exercise, I rest and sometimes even fall back to sleep (I start my exercise around 5:30am-630 am). I guess that's okay right?

Not me.. I'm really active after exercise. How can you be active in your workout and be a couch potato? It's a waste of effort.

Thanks for the post mikaela. I'm not a couch potato but I sometimes laze around. I'll try not to do that anymore http://www.dietforums.com/images/smilies/wink.png
