Pushups

Hi there. I was wondering what the best way is to start doing pushups? I haven't attempted one since grade nine gym class and it took me a whole class to do ten of them. I have absolutely no upper body strength so I've been VERY reluctant to try them again since I've begun to properly work out. I don't have access to weights just yet (I'm in college so my money goes to transportation, food and rent basically) so I couldn't build up strength before starting that.

What are different types of pushups and which are the easiest to do for a beginner? I know there are "girl pushups" but I've never known how to properly do them.

Thanks.

I would suggest you start off with warm up exercises such lifting weight. Then you can try a simple exercise to build up your initial strength like incline push up. After you are used to it, you can experiment on other types of push ups.

I agree with mikaela. You need to start with the basics for you to build up enough upper body strength. Be sure not to overwork yourself.

Just a tip, when you lower your body, wait for about 10 seconds before you lift up. Then wait for about 2 seconds before you lower your upper body again. Repeat those step about 3x. That should really build up your strength.
