According to an article in CNN, Valley Meat Company recalled almost 1 million pounds, in form of patties and bulk products, produced between October 2nd, 2009 - January 12th, 2010. Those beef products are believe to have been contaminated by a rare strain of the bacterium E. coli O157:H7. They were distributed to retail outlets, institutional food service providers in CA, TX, OR, AZ and overseas.
It was reported in USDA that 7 people were sickened between February and June and consumers are advised to either throw away these beef products or cook them in temperature of at least 160° F. In most severe cases, E. coli can cause serious illness, even death. The complete list of Valley Meat Company products are published in their website so be sure to check them out.
