My sister is a smoker and she said that it's difficult to gradually quit smoking because it's also for the health. Some people go experience nausea, headache, and sudden cough and colds. Just like drug addiction, you have to go though the rehabilitation and you cannot cut it down right away.
There are many things that you can do to help you stop smoking. You can change your eating and drinking habits. Drink a lot of water, eat fresh fruits and be aware of 'pleasure drinks' like coffee, tea and alcohol to stop your craving. You can also determine what makes you smoke. As for my sister, she gets comfort from smoking and it helps her go to sleep. So she is trying to divert her attention to other alternatives that can help her sleep fast. Sometimes she adds a little a teaspoon of gin or vodka on her fruit juice which makes her fall deep asleep. She also do some exercises before going to bed and it also puts her to sleep. What I am trying to say is that look for healthy options to quit smoking. There is always a way and if you are determined to quit it. |

I suggest you engage in other activities like swimming. Get enough exercise and divert your attention on more important stuff like your health. Most smokers get addicted to cigarette because of the comfort and relaxation they get from it. So you rest well, you can do yoga, go to the gym, or go out with your friends. Anything that will make you look the other way

I was a smoker before and I didn't quit right away because my friend got sick when she instantly stopped smoking. I should say that the best way is not to pressure yourself too much. Withdraw but take it easy. I used to finish 1 pack in 1 day and now I am free. It actually makes me feel better, but of course the process was not easy because I had to eat lots candies and drink a lot of coffee too every time I crave for a smoke. I was really able to stop in 5 months. It was a long process but I'm proud that I did overcome it.

I totally agree with you kathy! I thought my friends were just making excuses when they said that quitting is not that easy until my cousin told me that he also was having a hard time stopping. Some of the people who gradually quit smoking experience withdrawal syndrome like:

That is was what my sister said too when my mom convinced her to quit smoking. She got comfort from smoking so it was difficult for her to stop. She was also able to quit by diverting her attention to other more important activities and eating healthy foods but she did drink plenty of coffee while she was going through the process
