broke down (for only two days...)
hi all, (i'm new here!)
i have a question. i've been on atkins diet for over a month now, keeping carbs |
Li... like Bluehex said, it depends on how you're feeling (both physically and emotionally). Physically, the carbs/sugar from the last two days have most likely kicked you back to burning glucose. Sometimes it's really hard to wean yourself off the carbs... and you'll find that Induction is necessary. For others, a return to OWL is "easy" and the right for them. Either way, it's your choice. You wouldn't, however, need to do Induction level (20g) any longer than it takes to revert yourself back into burning ketones.
One thing to keep in mind... this "episode" is only a short pause in your weight loss. It doesn't mean you won't or can't keep up with this way of eating. We ALL have done something similar (heck, I just took a MONTH off, on purpose). The difference between success and failure? Whether or not you pick yourself up RIGHT NOW and keep going. Learn from the experience, don't just try to forget it... this is critical (why it happened, what you did, how you could avoid it happening again, what you could do differently, what feelings were involved, who influenced you, etc). But get up, figure it out, keep going and put it behind you. I know you can do it! Tril |
I'm just chiming in to offer encouragement and to say I hope you won't let this "detour" make you go off Atkins. I'm in it for the long haul, and that means "life" happens...stress, holidays, vacations...and the best thing is to try and learn HOW your body reacts to lapses and HOW YOU react to lapses! Because "lapses" will happen!
My best to you ... Toni |
I echo the above! I keep an Excel log daily of my weight and food intake. When I stall, I go back and see what my total carbs AND calories were. As we get closer to goal, cutting back on fat and adding carbs is important. Also, alcohol, later on, though allowed in moderation, has NO beneficial qualities and can slow you down.
Logging and charting keeps me honest! Toni |
WELCOME! usually after a binge, any binge, large ones or even the small ones I consider 'hiccups', I drop right back to induction, and watch my ketostix closely. Once I'm burning agian, then back to where I left off. I highly reccomend keeping a journal, that has been vital to the progress I've made so far. Finding this site is a huge step in the right direction, the support from everyone here is unbelievable! Good luck, never give up.
