Hi Everyone!
Hope everyone is well. I am an old-timer, been on/off Atkins since I was 10. You know the drill, lose and gain A LOT of weight over and over again (yes, very bad but I am being honest  ). My latest attempts arent going so well and I cant crack the code. Any feedback appreciated. I am 6ft, early 30s and about 350lbs (25 stone). I am in very good shape physically (workout 5x per week). I am eating correctly on Atkins because I have done this so many times and I am in ketosis. The weight isnt coming off like it used to. (I remember I could drop 10lbs the first week!!) What do you think is going on? |

Hi! WELCOME!! I'm Toni...on Atkins for almost 8 months.
If you don't mind my asking, at this point, how many days and how many pounds? What were your expectations? Hope you are drinking TONS of water. The time you were on Atkins and lost 10 pounds the first week, had you been working out 5 times per week? So many factors go into each individual's results it's hard to say. Some say the body is more stubborn the next time around and that the first time is "Our Golden Shot". Not to say we don't lose...we just don't lose as fast. Let us know a little more...there are some REALLY knowledgeable folks here that may have a clue. Good Luck!! |

You can be in ketosis and still not lose weight. Your body still has a Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) and if you over consume calories, no matter what the good doctor says, you will not lose weight. So what does your diet look like? Do you log on FitDay or any other diet sites? Perhaps you should start and see if there are some hidden carbs/calories in there that you are missing.

OOOhhhhh.....OK, maybe thats it. I am consuming a lot of calories but I always thought that was cool, so long as your carbs (and insulin) were under control. That is, if you wanna eat 20 steaks and 40 eggs, knock yourself out, LOL. (i'm not)
Hmm....maybe as i have gotten older my metabolism slowed down and now i need to eat LESS than before to have the same result. I have lost about 5 lbs in about 10 days. Slow and steady, I guess. I just remember the good old days where i melted away the first month. Now, it feels like its payback and I have to REALLY work for each and every pound. I do feel better, and I guess thats the most important thing. Thanks guys! |

Absolutely!
My grown son, on Atkins, is a big meat eater. I jokingly said to him, "Just because you CAN eat the cow, you don't HAVE to!" Calories are NOT the primary focus, but one can overdo butter and hamburger...just eat until you are full. And yes, I am living proof at age 65, the metabolism DOES slow down. For me, "This isn't Kansas any more!" At your age, less so, but it happens. 5 pounds in 10 days is nothing to worry about. Cut back on anything you fear is excess (like a pound of bacon! LOL) and I'll bet you do GREAT!! Good luck and keep posting your progress! Toni |

Hi WMC! I think five pounds in ten days is great!
And, yeah, overdoing the meat can slow down your weight loss. When you eat a lot more protein than your body needs, the excess will be turned into fat, just like with carbs. It just takes more calories worth of protein than carbohydrate because the body has to work harder to digest protein. I find that fatty beef and pork can slow me down. Better to eat healthy fats like olive oil and flaxseed oil or fatty fish than beef or pork fat. I'm glad your here! I've been away for a while and am starting new. It's nice to see some familiar faces. Karen |

KARENNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! Yeah, so great to see you!!
Well, guys, I guess when you get older it takes a little longer to let the magic happen. I finally lost a big chunk (!) and feeling very good about it. Plus, I definitely see more definition in my face which is a total bonus. I think my style of weight loss is nothing, then a big loss, then nothing again. Hahahhahaa. I have a nice routine of salad, chicken, salmon and nuts. Exercise 5 times per week. Feeling well. Very well. Good luck to everyone and STAY FOCUSED!!! ![]() |

new guy here, not new to atkins though. Great to find a place for fellow low carb/atkins dieters. I think were in the same boat here, I started at 350, and I also train 5-6x's a week, depending on what kind of workouts you do, it could be your not losing as fast because your adding muscle, also try supping with fiber once in a while.

YUP! Slow and steady...frustrating, boring, but it works.
Kinda stuck, but not worried. After being on Atkins for 8 months I have learned that, after Induction, it takes me some time to lose about 5 pounds and "semi-stall", then go another 5 and "semi-stall" so now I am in my "Hit 132 and won't budge" phase. No worries! I love the plan, miss NOTHING enough to cheat for, and have the patience of JOB and the willpower to resist goodies OTHER than red wine, my vice, my potential staller, but my only indulgence! I don't call having more than one glass of wine "cheating"...I call it "Within OWL, extra carbs" ![]() Toni |

Hi WMC and well done I am 43 years old and have this year gone from 234 lbs (16 stone 10) to 150lbs (10 stone 10) .I came off slow at first and I thought I can eat just whatever I want hence the name cheeseface. Then after some advice on here and reading I realised that I was well over eating for a 5'8'' tall male.I took out all the snack cheese and ate sensible low carb meals and got a big dog that needed loads of walking. Then I saw the massive drops 8-9lbs a week for about 5 weeks ( check my pictures). So if I can do literally anyone can.Whats important is getting your head (mind) right first and then going for it.
Good look and keep going. Regards Simon |
