Default Another Excellent Food Documentary
If you guys saw ny previous post about "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead", you know that I am a documentary junkie. Lately I have been watching quite a few and have come across another great one. It is called Fat Head. It is basically centered around the documentary Super Size Me and how the evidence provided was misconstrued... it also touches on many other food and diet myths that back up Leptin such as good fats being key to success. For those of you with Netflix, it is currently on there.

Hi bsb! I recently watched Supersize Me for the first time...very interesting... I highly doubt whether the info was 'misconstrued'....the only thing I'd ever have from 'McPoison's' is their coffee, not bad. I wouldn't touch their 'phood' with a 10 foot pole. Also important is who exactly is producing the documentary, sometimes 'the lunatics are running the asylum', if you know what I mean. A VERY good one I watched recently was called 'Food Matters', I highly recommend it if you can get it!

Hi! I have actually watched that one and it is great as well! I just liked how this one breaks down a lot of the common food and dieting myths. For example, (one we all know here to be false but many don't) fats and oils make you fat. They explain here how your body needs fat to function and it is the type of fat that is important. Eating low fat things does not mean you are doing good for your body.

I will add that this guy eats only fast food for 30 days and only pays attention to the carb amounts. I wont spoil the ending but it's pretty impressive.

Edited to add- Don't be put off by the description if you go to watch it. This isn't something that is suggesting you eat fast food, nor am I.

Count me in....the popular press condemns Mc D's because of the fat content, but says nothing about the type of fat content....that is what is so confusing for the general public. If you use grain fed meat, with lots of veg oil to cook...can we say duh???

I continue to rebel against the fat is bad ethic of the US....because it is a half truth. To tell the whole truth would sink the grain industry....and we cant have that, can we? sigh.....stepping down off my soap box now.......

I agree I can see why people do not understand because I used to be one of those who bought low fat things and avoided butter and such. Even ate that "I can't believe it's not Butter" stuff.. and never understood why it was not making me any thinner or better feeling. If only more people looked further into this!

Bombshell, i hear ya...I've been doing this for 3 years and I still pinch myself when I add real butter to something....and gee, it tastes better too....what more can we ask for? I count myself lucky that I never liked the taste of margarine, so I quit eating anything on bread while I was growing up....One of the things I did right in life...LOL...but at the time, my parents thought they were doing the right thing.

No kidding!!! I will say that I do enjoy foods that I should not be eating but that is another reason I am looking so forward to starting my HCG journey. I only want to lose about 20 pounds, but I am eager to rid my body of the junk and cravings for those unhealthy things. I have learned so much about good food vs. bad food, good fat vs. bad fat, etc. lately and it is amazing to me how wrong I had it all. Even more amazing that my younger sister is 6 months away from being a Registered Dietician and she still eats everything "low fat" and artificial because she thinks it is better for her. Sheesh! Do either of you guys do the Leptin reset or Paleo?

thanks for the movie recommendation - I saw it before but it wasn't on Netflix then - and I forgot about it - and now Netflix in Canada has it! This diet has really helped me learn so much about food and my body! And healthy fats! I read the Paleo solution between rounds 2 and 3 - loved it. Thinking about doing leptin reset after this round...wondering about getting the bab in! lol! 50 grams of protein! sounds yummy today! (I am on p2 vlcd 27).

Yes, people love eating that crap low fat stuff - and think they are doing something healthy! In P3/P4 when i would order a breve latte at starbucks with heavy cream (not paleo - but yummy!), I would inevitably be behind or in front of someone ordering a non-fat, artificially sweetened drink...or a barista who would be like - you want the whole latte made with cream?! Yep! Crazy look. :-)

It's the 'elephant in the room'.... never before in history have there been more 'low fat' products, and never before in history has society been fatter....
