Default Movies & popcorn
I've been doing great for 2 months now. I've had a few struggles, but nothing major and I've stayed faithful to the program. Now...I'm taking my grand children for supper (got that figured) and then to a movie. You know that even though we've just walked out of the restaurant they are going to want popcorn and a pop. Help!!! I need to be prepared. Does anybody have suggestions as to how I can keep my hands out of their popcorn?

well - why would the subject line do that? "Spam" and popcorn? I wrote "movie" and popcorn. It accepted the word movie in the body of the post. Oh well...hopefully somebody can figure it out.

LOL... it's the forum word censor. It changes vid-eo and mov-ie to "spam". That way, if someone posts a link to a, a-hem, "vid-eo", it will say spam.

As for the popcorn... I would bring some sf hard candy to suck on while they're eating popcorn. And tell them upfront, "I will buy you some popcorn, but you have to promise that no matter what I say you don't let me have any!" SF gum would work, too, if you like it (I don't).

LOL...I really thought the question was going to be about eating spam for dinner. So, is spam (the meat-like substance) atkins-friendly? Even during induction?

I would say no... from the SPAM website:

"SPAMŽ Classic is made of just a few simple ingredients. Ham, pork, sugar, salt, water, a little potato starch, and a mere hint of sodium nitrite to help SPAMŽ keep its color."

Sugar, potato starch and nitrates... definitely NOT a health food. LOL

We always said that SPAM was an acronym for Some Parts Are Meat. It's the parts that aren't meat that will kill ya.

To get back to the original question, to keep your hands out of their popcorn, by having your own hands full with something you can enjoy....Don't know what your local cinema sells but mine sells hot coffee and tea as well as the usual dreck (I can say that, I worked in a mo-vie theater waaay many years ago) so I order the hot drink and keep my hands on it during the picture. Keeps my hands warm and occupied and my mouth happy and relatively carb free. Get a bottle of water if they sell those. And for pity's sake, don't think the "butter product" on the popcorn is melted butter unless they can show you the land o lakes packaging.

I made it through!!!! Thanks for your support. I picked up a bottle of water and some sugar free gum before we headed over to the theater. Once we were settled in our seats my grandson handed me his popcorn to "hold". I kept trying to give it back to him but he would just take a handful and continue watching the movie. The smell was actually making me feel sick so I wasn't having any trouble keeping my hands out of it. Once we were on our way out my grandson said "thanks for not eating my popcorn grandma". That was reward enough!!!!

These little challenges (well some are definitely bigger than others) remind me of when I quit smoking many years ago. It's just one step at a time.
