Carbs from veggies is EASY if you eat something other than greens/salads. Adding higher carb veggies to your meals AND snacks will spread out the carbs, helping you avoid an insulin response.

Here's an example of how I might get my veggies carbs into one day:

B'fast... scrambled eggs or omelette cooked with 1/4 cup onion (2.25), 1/4 cup green pepper (1.2) and 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms (0.6). That's 4.05 net carbs for b'fast.

Morning snack....cheese stick and 1 stalk of celery (0.8 )

Lunch... chicken breast with 1 cup cole slaw (2.2) and 1/2 cup brussel sprouts (4.8 ).

At this point I'm already at 11.85 net carbs and I still have half the day to go!!!

Let's say I don't get an afternoon snack... or I didn't eat a morning snack and I have that celery in the afternoon.

Dinner... steak with roasted veggies like 1/2 cup zucchini (2.2), 1/2 cup yellow summer squash (2.6), 1/4 cup onion (2.25), 1/2 cup mixed peppers (3.8). These counts are all for "cooked".

At this point I'm now at a total of 22.7 net grams of carb for the day. That's an OWL level. As you can see, that didn't include ANY salad. Since I was at 11.85 before dinner, I COULD have a salad instead of the roasted veggies and easily get the 12 to 15 net carbs that day.

As long as you're eating veggies other than salad greens, it's fairly simple to get all that you're supposed to have. Me, I have to be careful to not go OVER. LOL

Thanks so much Tril. I haven't been having veggies with my eggs in the morning (no wonder it was so boring). If I add in the morning and give up my lunch time salads I should have it. I'll try that for another week before I move on. Thanks again!

Maryanne... since BlueLady had never gotten her carbs up to Induction level, that's where I started (and didn't suggest adding from the carb ladder).

I, too, have added foods from the carb ladder... making SURE that I get the minimum 17 - 20 net grams from veggies first. That's the first rung of the ladder, adding an additional 5 net carbs from veggies. If I don't have those, I better not be indulging in the other rungs, ya know?

But that's me... and how I do it. I function better (IYKWIM) having more veggies than more of the other kinds of carbs.

I was just giving examples of ways to add in a few very healthy carbs after induction, ya can't live off 20 a day forever... I added in 5 more and I am still maintaining ketosis. Maybe cause I am young and my metabolism can handle it, Idk. Since my two cents wasn't right enough, lol ill go ahead and take it down, and perhaps next time, I won't post at all cause I would hate to tell someone they could eat nuts when they shouldn't, thanks girlfriend!

Default help - not enough carbs
Can somebody please help me increase my carbs. During induction I was so afraid to go hungry I didn't have any problem (I was constantly eating). Now I'm eating properly (3 meals and a snack or 2) and I can't get my carbs from veggies up to 12 never mind the 17 I want to increase to. I'll never get to dairy at this rate. Please help!!!
