... from people who have done Atkins (some of them fell off the wagon mind)
As I read it, on induction No more than 20G of carb and absolutely nothing that isn't on the list. However, people are telling me that on induction I can eat as much meat as I want as it is free carb Surely it is no more that 6-8ozs? I'm stocking up my store cupboard bit by bit, got my multivits and will be starting (and the way he is talking, so will my husband) a week today. |

That's pretty close to a perfect description right there. LOL Just remember that 12 to 15 (net) g of those 20 allowed grams have to come from the vegetables on the Induction list. If you go to the Atkins' website, and look at the Induction foods list, everything is right there... even the CARB COUNTS! No need to look things up and try to figure out the net carbs yourself. The other 5 to 8 grams you can "spend" on anything else on the list... say... up to 4 oz of cheese a day (4 g) or Splenda (1g per packet)... or salad dressing (read your labels for this). Those 5 to 8 g don't stretch very far unless you're careful! As for the meat... you can eat as much as your body needs. Not as much as your HEAD wants, what your BODY NEEDS. Eat to satisfy your hunger. Don't over eat because "you can" or "it's zero carbs". We don't count calories but the amount of food you eat does count in the end... over eating is still overeating, whether is low carb or high carb, if you body can't use it you won't lose weight. Now, you will be eating a lot more meat per serving since you won't be eating many carbs. Luckily, protein and fat have a way of filling us up that carbs NEVER could. So, take a regular sized portion of meat... if, after you eat you don't feel comfortably full (never ever stuffed) have a little more. You can always have more... remind yourself of that. Even if it's a half hour after dinner. You can always have more later. I typically cook 8 oz steaks for myself. That yeilds about 6 oz cooked meat. When I do burgers it's less because I don't like thick burgers... so more like 1/4# to start on those. I cook one pork chop... I eat two chicken drumsticks and maybe a thigh or one half breast... 1/2# of white fish... two eggs... 1 cube cheese. Those are my usual portion sizes for protein. hth, Tril |
