Default Pro-HFCS TV Commercials
Hey have you all seen these yet? There are two of them. One about a popsicle and one dealing with juice. The Corn growers of americal funded these to say. "HFCS has the same amount of calories as sugar and is fine... In moderation" Isn't that kind of like saying. Heroin could really help people with chronic pain... In moderation. The first one I saw I just jaw-dropped and stared at... Then Steph was over last night when one came on. Made me so disgusted. Our economy sucks, and lets spend an S-load of money to tell people that the ingredients that are causing the American obesity/diabetic rate to skyrocket is just fine.

Nik... I saw the popsicle one. I thought of all the cigarette commercials I watched growing up.

Have any of you seen the documentary called King Corn? I've been looking for it. It's about the corn industry... especially how HFCS is made. I heard that NetFlix has it so I'm thinking I might need to get a membership there if I'm going to see the film.

Here's a link about it... http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/kingcorn/

Yeah, I saw them. I guess it didn't offend me any more than all the McDonald's or Burger King commercials I've always seen. The corn growers are starting to panic I'm sure since everyone is trying to eat healthy.

They didn't really OFFEND me perse. I just think what a waste of money!!! But then I think that everyday about A LOT of things. The Boeing Company here is pending another strike and that puts EVERYONE on edge. Especially when my Dad has worked there for almost 30 years, my little sister isn't union but a contracted worker who will still be working during the strike. I would be a afraid to cross those lines! and pretty much a lot of people in this area work there. In an already tough economy things are going to be TIGHT!

Last night Steph and I were talking about how we wish sometimes the whole US could strike against the government so that they would fix things like healthcare, education, etc... But then I think they could potentially call that a revolution!

Well, and the problem with that is that not everyone agrees about the problems with healthcare and such. For example, to completely provide healthcare for all people in the US, it would be necessary to collect more taxes. A lot of people are opposed to paying more taxes, etc.

It does get scary around here when Boeing has hiccups. I hope your sister and dad make it through the strike. Maybe your dad will get lucky and they'll offer him retirement instead. That's what they did to my uncle.

Yeah, it makes me raise an eyebrow when companies and organizations waste their money. On the plus side, at least it's an organization you are opposed to anyway that is wasting their money. It also says a lot about America's recent change in eating habits if they are having to even advertise and defend high fructose corn syrup.

On the flip side, a whole lot of my family is in rural Iowa and Illinois. Their economy is very adversely affected when the corn industry has issues.
