Default one week down
hey everyone! i'm new here my name is kris and i live in wisconsin. DH and i started induction this past monday and so far it's easier than i thought it would be. i have been reading this site for about a week and everyone seems to be pretty cool, so i figured it was time to de-lurk.

anyway, i know i'm in ketosis but i don't know that i've lost any weight - i've noticed a change in my upper abdominal area (it seems less obvious when i look down). is that abnormal? i don't plan to rely on the stix.

i don't have a goal weight in mind, instead i plan to just lose until i'm content with my body. i know i'm looking to lose at least 50 pounds. we have low carbed a few years ago, with good results. last time i went from 213 to 169 (i'm 5'2), but then started to justify things. i can eat this candy bar because i went to the gym. i can eat all this pasta because i had a bigass salad for lunch. well, yeah. lol. now here i am again.

so that's me. i hope to start jumping in with questions and even advice when i can.

Welcome Kris!!

"anyway, i know i'm in ketosis but i don't know that i've lost any weight"

Did you at least get weighed before you started? Or take measurements? How's the diet going... any issues there?

Glad you de-lurked!

i'm not good at the thinking ahead part. DH said he was doing atkins starting on monday, i jumped in with both feet. we didn't even think of measurements, just weights.

i did weigh myself. but... i work in a medical setting so last monday i weighed myself at work. wednesday i was at work but in a different location. then i used my home scale. LOL. i know, i need to pick one scale and stick with it because keeping track on 3 scales will be tough physically and mentally. the home scale is the only constant one, because i float between locations during the month.

i'll weigh myself here in a little bit, then check at work tomorrow (just for research of course). our home scale hasn't moved a pound so this should be interesting.

the diet is going well i guess. i don't feel stuck in a rut yet, although i might actually be in one. i'm not a big veggie eater at home, but love a good salad bar in the restaurants. i'm trying to keep a lot of options in the fridge cooked and ready to go so we don't fall into the "convenient" food trap. today i will be making burgers, meatballs, pork chops, chicken breast and chicken nuggets, eggs, and some cream cheese coulds.

thanks for the nice welcome

One more thing I'd suggest making is a crustless quiche... it makes a great fast meal or snack. Put veggies in it!

Also... keep your own "salad bar" ready in your fridge. I keep prewashed baby greens and washed/cut up salad veggies in zip lock bags. You can make a salad in NO time if it's all done ahead. Pre cooked veggies like broccoli, green beans (even canned) and cauliflower can be eaten cold or quickly heated in a microwave. The ultimate "fast food".

I need to do this myself today... get some protein cooked and veggie prepped!

Oh... are you drinking enough water??? Sometimes not drinking enough water will hinder weight loss in the beginning. That, and not eating enough fat to trigger your body into burning fat for energy. In the beginning it CAN'T burn body fat so you have to feed it fat... in a couple days you will have depleted your glycogen stores and started producing the necessary enzymes for fat metabolism. You should begin to see weight loss then!

i do have salad fixins in the fridge, i just gravitate away from them lol. i bought some south beach ranch dressing yesterday, and maybe i'll cook up some taco meat too. i love taco salad. maybe that will entice me to eat the greens.

i drink minimum of 64 oz of water daily, sometimes more, and i don't think fat intake is an issue lol. i do love the fact that i'm caffeine free (coffee pot has actually moved from front and center on the counter to the basement) and i feel more energetic NOW than when drinking a pot a day just a week ago. well, energetic for the day, not for the 3 hours i was hyped up i guess is more accurate.

i think my biggest "issue" with atkins vs the plan we did before is my mindset. the other plan was vegetable focused - a 2 cup salad for lunch with a protein and a fruit, and a 3 cup salad for dinner with a protein and a fruit. throw in 1/2 cup pasta once and call it a day. made it easy to figure out what to eat, even if salads did get boring after a while. which, in hindsight, is probably the reason i rebounded the way i did.
