Default Can fiber supplements count towards reducing carb count?
Have always wondered, but never found a satisfactory answer.

no

Total carbs - fiber = carbs we count PER FOOD ITEM
Extra fiber elsewhere in the diet does not reduce the amount of sugar in something you eat - and our goal is to cut out sugars...

Sorry.

I was born in 1970, but I don't remember that Grape Nuts commercial. But man I love Grape Nuts--my grandfather persuaded me to eat them when I was very young and I loved them from the first try. I wonder if I will ever eat them again?

I always spinked them on my yogurt. Kind of like granola I guess. Even put them on ice cream during one summer, convincing myself that made the ice cream HEALTHY.

Anything edible that has fiber has carbs. It can have more carbs than fiber, but not more fiber than carbs.

So there's never a deficit. If you take in 10 grams worth of psyllium husks, for example, it will also be 10 grams of carbs. So, net carbs are zero.

If the nutrition label for a particular product indicates more grams of fiber than carbs, there's a rounding error somewhere.

Exactly as Karen put it... LOL!

If you add a fiber supplement to a meal or snack, you're adding more than fiber, you're adding an equal number of carbs... the carbs and fiber cancel each other out, so it does nothing to reduce the carb count in the other food. Get it?

You didn't live through the 70's... you were born in '78. LOL If you'd lived through the 70's you'd remember Yule as the pine tree eating guy on Grape Nuts commercials.
