Default question... sugar alcohols
How do we count these? As carbs or deleted from carb count? What's the general consensus about consuming them? I know they cause intestinal distress for some, and that there are different types... Anyone?

Thanks!

Theres a lot of stuff on sugar alcohols in here, I posted a pretty big one myself, that was very indepth.

Basically as a rough rule of thumb i count sugar alcohols as .5 carbs instead of the 0 they say.

Thanks Kyp, I'll do a search for that post. BTW... I very much appreciate your tough-love posts... both for the honesty and the humor!

Here's a good article on sugar alcohols:
http://www.mendosa.com/netcarbs.htm

I've decided to avoid them, myself, except for erythritol. Maltitol gives me digestive complaints and eating chocolates sweetened with it stalls my weight loss.

Thank you Karen... I had no idea they had such a variable glycemic index value. I will be much more careful of them in future.
