Default Atkins is not for me
Hi!
Today is my 4th day on atkins. I'm feeling ok now. No headaches, no nausea and almost not tired at all. But I'm really hungry. I know that I should stop whinning and stick to it, but no... I don't think this diet is for me. I don't like meat and I'm starting to feel nauxious around eggs...

I mean, it works indeed in the purpose of losing weight. In three days I lost 6 pounds. But it's not something I can do for long... I probably can take the 2 weeks... but not much more...

Sorry guys, I don't mean to discourage you. If you want to lose weight it works nice... but not as a life long eating plan...

ACtually it works fine as a life long plan, it's just you never read about anything past the point where the words meat and eggs exist.

Its the same as any other diet, less restrictive honestly.

Sorry but the comments regarding the impossibility of Atkins as a long term plan coupled with the notification that it's just meat and eggs is enough to make any true Atkins follower frustrated.

It's a common misconception that its the diet that can fail, when in fact its the person on the diet that does the failing.

All diets are in the end sustainable only in the term of mental discipline.

If you are truly going to turn in your Atkins towel, then at least don't give up on your dieting in general! Atkins is the best thing to EVER happen to me so far as a diet goes. I struggled with 5 pounds at a time and never got ANYWHERE doing low fat diets but with Atkins I've already lost 7 pounds and this is the first week. I'm so happy and excited, motivated and determined!

But if it is something you think you can't find a way to live with, that's understandable. I don't know how much weight you have to lose or how long you'd have to be on induction... but you do realize, don't you, that you add other foods back into your diet in the second phase? So you don't eat just meat and cheese and eggs forever... plus induction has more to it than just pieces of meat and cheese and eggs.

Look through the recipes and menus boards if you're still willing to and see if you can't find some fun ideas. I made a casserole that my non-Atkins friends drooled over and had to join me in last night. I'm gonna try the mock up of fried rice... I had crustless quiches... I love fried bologna with lettuce... I made a great tilapia salad with Blue Cheese!!! There's lots of yummy things to eat that are much more exciting than the basics if you look. Just plain cooked meat isn't how to go. Learn to make some fun recipes! I even made just a plain pork roast the other day and it was SO good because I'm on Atkins and I didn't have to avoid eating the fatty parts (which were sooo nummy).

I'd say give everything a once over again and make sure you go back and read up on the 4 phases. Know that this is a diet that DOES work for the long term and that you DO eat more than meat and cheese and eggs as you lose more and more weight.

But if you absolutely can't stick to Atkins, don't give up on your diet in general. Don't give up on yourself. There are many great ways to lose weight and while this is the best one for me, it may not be the best for you. Weight Watchers was my diet of choice before Atkins because I lost 40 pounds on it once in only 5 months, (but for me the weight didn't stay off ) and there's a GREAT support forum for it over at Dotti's Weight Loss Zone (you can Google it). And that's not the only other diet out there.

Above all, don't lose faith in yourself and your ability to lose weight if you want to. I hope you decide to stay with Atkins, but either way, I hope you manage to meet your long term health goals!

Best wishes,

Shei

Atkins isn't for everyone, but you really don't have to eat that much meat and eggs. A normal serving each meal is plenty. Just don't leave out the veggies.

Induction is only two weeks. After that, you can eat lots of different foods. I'm in the Ongoing Weight Loss phase. For breakfast on the weekend, I had fresh raspberries mixed with ricotta cheese. It was so delicious. Later, I had an Italian soda: club soda, mixed with vanilla sugar-free syrup and a bit of cream. I also snacked on almonds. For proteins, I eat mostly chicken and salmon, with an occasional steak.

Don't forget olives of all kinds... avocado/guacamole... imported cheese (just had a slice of pepperjack that was to die for) ... and baby greens dressed with decadent dark green EVOO and fresh lemon juice made into a creamy vinaigrette... and coffee with real cream... and deviled eggs and tuna salad made with real mayo... and macadamia nuts... and fresh berries like blueberries/raspberries/blackberries floating in a puddle of splenda sweetened cream... and steamed green beans from the garden tossed with real butter... and tiny asparagus spears roasted with EVOO and crushed garlic... and chicken cordon bleu with smokey ham and swiss... and scallops wrapped in bacon...

Oh, and after all that, if you want it, you can have a steak.
