FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS I HAD SWITCH TO EATING ROMAINE LETTUCE FOR SALAD WITH ROMA TOMATOES, GRATED CHEDDAR CHEESE AND BOILED EGGS W/ BACON RANCH DRESSING.. 10 MINUTES AFTER THIS MEAL I WOULD NOTICE A SEVERE DROP IN ENERGY LEVEL AND MY HEAD WOULD NOT FEEL GOOD AT ALL. MY ENERGY LEVEL WOULD DROP SO LOW THAT I COULDN'T KEEP MY EYES OPEN..
THIS LASTED TIL YESTERDAY. THATS WHEN I CHOOSE NOT TO HAVE A SALAD INCLUDING TOMATOES TO SEE WHAT WAS THE CULPRIT. I KNEW IT WAS SOMETHING I WAS EATING IN THE SALAD. BUT I WAS STILL NOT SURE WHAT WAS CAUSING IT. UNTIL I HEARD THE NEWS ABOUT SAMONELLA FOUND IN TOMATOES IN THE U.S., I WAS CONTRIBUTING IT TO THE ATKINS FLU OR I WAS THINKN I WAS ALLERGIC TO ROMAINE LETTUCE..YESTERDAY WAS MY FIRST DAY I WENT WITHOUT MY USUAL SALAD INCLUDING TOMATOES AND I HAVE NOT HAD THAT AWFUL FEELING OF FATIGUE SINCE. I DINED OUT AT A RESTAURANT TODAY AND ORDERED MY USUAL GRILLED CHICKEN SALAD EVEN THEY DID NOT SERVE IT WITH TOMATOES BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE GOING ON WITH THE TOMATOES. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT SERVE ANY PRODUCTS INCLUDING SALSA THAT CONTAINS TOMATOES. NOW I'M SURE IT WAS THE TOMATOES .. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THAT AWFUL FATIGUE THAT WOULD PUT ME TO SLEEP FOR 3 HOURS.. I WENT THRU THAT FOR 3 DAYS AND IT STOPPED SINCE I HAVEN'T HAD ANY TOMATOES. FOR ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN CONSUMING TOMATOES ESP. HAVING SYMPTOMS AS I HAVE DESCRIBED READ THIS ARTICLE AND THROW ANY TOMATOES OR TOMATOE BASE PRODUCT OUT..U MAY NOT BE FEELING BAD BECAUSE OF AN ATKINS DETOX.. LIKE WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS FEELING, HERE'S AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE POSIONED TOMATOES> http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20080610...almonellascare |

Cheri... if you had eaten tomatoes with salmonella in them you'd be feeling a whole lot worse than just fatigue, I'm afraid. It's food poisoning... you'd have diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramping for 4 to 7 days. I'm not saying you didn't feel weird after eating the salad, I'm just saying it probably wasn't due to salmonella.

Thanks for the article Tril.. But I'm not sure if its food posioning. If so its definitely in the salad because I eat the same thing everyday. When I was sick these last few days , the tomaotes in my salad were also recently purchase the last few days I was ill feeling. I pretty much eat salads only and its the exact same ingredients. I wash my veggies thoroughly maybe 3x under the faucet.
I read samonella posion has more symptoms than what I experience. But I will continue to eat the same way with my salad except the tomatoes and If I don't get ill tommorrow then I am positive its the tomatoes in my case since my diet is very plain and simple just salad veggies and boiled eggs. However in the past 3.5 months this has been the only week I have experienced what I am feeling now and I haven't change anything that I eat. |

Vanessa... are they local tomatoes? California is on the list of states that are ok to eat tomatoes from:
"FDA recommends consuming raw red plum, raw red Roma, or raw round red tomatoes grown and harvested only from the following areas that HAVE NOT BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE OUTBREAK: Alabama Arkansas California..." Call the store you bought them at and ask where they got these tomatoes. They may say to bring them back and they will refund your $ or trade you for other ones. It also depends on the type of tomato you have... if it's any of these, you're ok: cherry tomatoes grape tomatoes tomatoes sold with the vine still attached tomatoes grown at home It's only the plum, roma and round red ones (no vine attached) that you have to watch out for. Cheri... washing them WILL NOT remove salmonella. It's IN the tomato. You have to cook it to kill the bacteria. Tril |

Maybe it was the sugar in the tomatoes??? Too much natural sugar is the same as too much processed sugar... it will cause a sharp rise in blood glucose followed by a surge of insulin resulting in a CRASH, which would be your fatigue feeling. If all you ate was lettuce and tomatoes, this might be the problem... did you have fats and protein in your salad???
