Default Is spam/luncheon meat safe?
Was just wondering if spam/luncheon meat is safe for atkins? I'm on induction (once again). I'm on my 5th day of induction. The label says 2 net grams of carbs per serving and I just had a serving.

My ketostix shows dark purple, too. But my guilt says otherwise lol.

I think it would probably depend on whether the variety you used has sugar in it. I know spam is usually made with sugar, and sugar is a no-no. If it doesn't I would imagine its fine.

Cheers, i didn't know sugar is a no-no. I always went by carb content alone. Life saver!

Pure spam should not contain sugar. Check the label for any sugar products like dextrose, corn syrup. etc. At 2 carbs per something there has got to be SOMETHING in there as pure meat is carb free and spices are negligable. Personally, nothing tastes better than meat you make yourself.

That being said, keto-stix don't lie. Monitor your ketone reaction to the meat (over the next 24 hours). All things being equal in your diet, if you stay purple your body may have a low resistence to that kind of carb and you are all right.

Regardless of what you eat, exercise is a MUST.

Go Bend it like Beckham ... or Ronaldo, etc.

I shouldn't have let myself go, with that serving of spam. I'm mighty pissed now. I'll make sure to check the ketostix again tomorrow.

Heh, that's funny. I just had Spam for breakfast on Saturday with some eggs. It was not as good as I remember when camping...
Although my Ketones where still at an elevated level and I lost weight last week. So I guess it was OK. I think Spam makes some products that have flavoring that would likely contain some sort of sugar but I don't think that regular old spam has any sugar.

You can use the link below to get more info on Spam. Just take out the spaces and type a . instead of 'dot'
