Default Been fasting-please don't judge :)
Have been water fasting for health reasons rather than weight loss for 30 days. It has helped my health problems- It wasn't done just for weight loss. I'm not advocating fasts- thats down to personal opinion. I can only say that it worked for me on health grounds.
After this fast I will have to do about 2 weeks on veggie soup to get digestion back up and everything working again, which is fine but I'm planning ahead.

I have lost around 30lbs as a consequence (I had terrible water retention due to a health problem, daily migraines also). Fasting is the hardest thing I've ever done...but desperate cicumstances sometimes call for desperate measures....

I have 40lbs more to loose and due to having severe pcos I am very metabolocally resistant. Before the fast no diets have ever caused me to loss more than 3-5lbs no matter how long I stuck to them. I gained weight at weight watchers believe it or not.lol I know I don't do well on sugar or many carbs since then. Found atkins and read the book- seems it may suit me

Health problem is under control and I hope much improved too (time will tell) After a fast, folk advocate living as a vegan/veggie or only on raw food- and quite frankly- I'll do that for the needed two weeks but cant stomach that long term. I was a veggie for 10 years and that when I gained a ton of weight!

My question is- has anyone done a fast/MC or any kind then succesfully switched to atkins without problems or extreme weight gain? I still want to loose 40lbs and find an eating style I can stick with to maintain, and knowing cabs and sugar dont suit me- atkins sounds the biz.
If anyone has any experince, tips for doing so after a fast?
Would I be better to do induction, or the fat fast first as I realize my metabolism will initiall be low after this.

God I cant wait to have a bite of meat again
However, I dont want to rapidly regain the 30lbs I have lost.
Any input- anyone?
Thank You in advance.

I have done many fasts. I won't judge your reasons for doing so or how effective I think you shall be in keeping the weight off...

however, unbiased scientific studies suggest that there is a near 100% chance you shall re-gain the weight lost due to a fasting diet -- most likely within the first 12-18 months of re-introducing food.

As you indicate this fast was for health reasons, I would strongly suggest you consult with your doctor (with whom you should be collaborating) for transitioning from a rather stringent weight loss programme to a more sensible one (Atkins).

Good luck 8)

I never use a dr for fasting to be honest- they have no clue.
They were the ones who kept advising weight watchers and various pco diets that only made me gain weight

Well- I'm hoping to buck the trend and not regain the fasting weight with new dietry changes. After all, I'm not a statistic and can maybe pull it off.

Thanks

only water and no food in your body for 30 days WITHOUT doctor supervision? Are you nuts? seriously, you are putting your life/health at risk, not to mention your PCOS status. This I know for a fact given my medical background. Oh, and I am very familiar with PCOS and have never heard of using a water fast to aid or reverse the condition.

get a different doctor if you have to.

For me I have had enormous relief from migraines and symtoms, hormones are balancing up too, endo symptoms have cleared up a lot. It may not be for everyone as I said, I'm not reccomending it, its just what I chose to do. I've tried drs for 15 years without any real success. There are just some things- they dont seem to be very good at sorting out. So I took responsibility for finding relief for myself. By doing atkins we are all deciding to improve health/weight and often against many drs advice to. Drs are not infallible and they are not always right, sometimes we have to decide for ourselves.

I don't want to dwell on that, done now. I'm looking for info on transition to atkins from fasting if possible from anyone who has done so.

Thanks

I'm not sure you'll find anyone who has done what you are intending to do.

After a thirty day fast, you will need to start with small amounts of clear liquids (boullion, jello, gatorade and anything you can see through). Frequent, small amounts would be best to start with. Then gradually add soft, non-spicy foods like vegetable soup, but avoid dairy products right now.

I'm glad you got through the fast and are ok. Not everyone is so lucky.
I sincerely hope you are taking vitamin and mineral supplements.

You will almost certainly gain back some of the weight once you start eating again. I hope you will follow the four phases of Atkins to get to a healthy way of eating so that you don't gain it all back, but never go through a long fast like that again.

I plan to do some time on veg juice, going to solid food and then on to atkins.

I feel good, did not take any vits or anything while on the fast. I will take probiotics for a month now as I transition. Then on to atkins induction and lots of physical activity to get metabolism up a bit.
Thanks for the advice
