Default can someone help?
Hi everyone,
I am currently into 4th week of Atkins and still in the induction phase. i started out with 154.5lbs and ht 5'6"....i am down to 147lbs but to me that is not a lot of weight loss after almost 4 weeks. I was hoping for a little bit more but it doesnt seem to be coming off quite that easy.
My clothes are not fitting that much loser either. I am not cheating at all and have been drinking a lot of water. have switched to drinking decaf coffee as well. i dont know what i am doing wrong

I only eat boiled eggs in the morning for breakfast.
beef patty with mayonnaise and some raddishes and cucumber.
chicken breast or beef patty again for dinner with same cucumber or lettuce with mayonnaise.
i dont drink sodas either and following a strict diet.
started exercising as well.
but is there anything anyone can recommend as far as what i can change to expedite this a little bit....i want to lose at least 15lbs in 3 weeks.
can someone help?
thank you so much.
i am really motivated and this site helps me stay on track.
i love that so many people here have made such a tremendous progress and i wish them all the luck in the world.

hi simi -
great work on induction and losing the pounds. i am not sure if you are actually serious about wanting to lose 15lbs in 3 weeks. You see, your weight and height are now currently in the "healthy" range -- at least, according to Weight Watchers. (I assume that you are over 25 and female)

http://www.weightwatchers.com/health...thyweight.aspx

So, it worries me slightly that you seem to have crash diet goals to get teeny-tiny. I would say, take your time, keep up the good work and revise your goals to be more realistic and thus, lomger lasting and healthy. I mean, did it only take you 3 weeks to gain your weight in the first place? think about it... Slow and steady wins the race.

Hi, Simi,

Where'smycoat is right! Losing five pounds per week is unrealistic at your weight. It would be better to aim for two pounds per week and take a bit longer to get to your goal. You'll be much more likely to keep it off that way.

The only way to lose weight more rapidly would be to increase your exercise tremendously.

Let's say your body needs 2000 calories on a low-carb diet. On a low-carb diet, your body burns more calories than if you were on a low-fat, low-calorie diet. Read Dr. Atkins's book to learn why.

What if you kept to a very restrictive 1000 calories on your low-carb diet? That's a 1000 calorie deficit each day, multiplied by seven. A pound of fat is 3500 calories, so you would lose two pounds per week.

If you add an hour of running per day (10 miles), that would be about 700 calories more you would burn each day. So that's an extra pound and a quarter you'd lose each week, totaling 3.25 pounds. But it's hard to run ten miles per day, and 1000 calories is very low.

On the other hand, say you eat a reasonable diet of 1200 calories and just take an easy run of 30 minutes per day (3 miles). You have a calorie deficit of 800 calories per day for food, and 350 for exercise. You'll lose 2.3 pounds. You'll also feel good.

It's kind of like the person who goes 80 mph on the freeway and makes it to the office three minutes ahead of the person who follows the speed limit. All in all, is it worth it to risk your life?

Thanks a lot karenj and wheresmycoat for encouraging remarks. My goal was based on my previous Atkins diet result. Last time actually 7 yrs ago, i was taking hormones and gained weight and lost in about 3 weeks time. and I realize now that as i am approaching 40 this yr, my metabolism has slowed down and taking estrogen replacement therapy. i realize that i am not that young anymore either.

The reason for me to lose that much weight is because i have always been thin and eversince i went on estrogen, the weight has just been creeping up on me and no matter what i did, i could not lose the lbs....now at least its coming off but slowly.

simi - your body seems to be going through a lot of adjustments and when you factor in the hormone scenario, the weight is going to be tougher than normal to manage.

Which is why I would toss out the scale and just focus on eating healthy food in normal portion sizes and EXERCISE daily, get plenty of sleep and take it easy. Your body will thank you for it. Better to do it slowly and healthy one time than lose, gain, lose, gain, lose, gain, etc. for life.
