a quirky question on low carb beers
over here in OZ we have lots of low carb beers... 3.5g per 335ml stubbie and .24g of sugar The question is..after the induction phase what would be the result of having say 2 stubbies 7g carb and having less vegetable carbs that day. does the alcohol in it muck up the system/ketosis or are carbs just carbs an experienced answer would be much appreciated thank you |

A quick search found this. I like my beer. Once in a while I'll have a miller lite, but I don't really like the taste. I think I'm going to try some of these other comparable lite beers.
My fav is bud lite, but then I can only have half as much. After reading her review of bud select, I really want to try it. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art14302.asp |

Here are my current thoughts on alcohol consumption, based upon my current experiences and what I remember reading in the book.
You can have the zero carb liquors with diet sodas... It won't mess up your ketosis, but while the alcohol is in your system, you will not be burning your body's fat / losing weight. I remember the book wording it along the lines of "it won't mess up your ketosis level, but it puts fat burning on hold onto the alcohol is completely out of your system." Two slightly different ways to work it, but the same impact holds true. I BELIEVE this is true. I have to have less days I have that cocktail or two with dinner. I think a better option would be a dessert cocktail. Hours after your last meal. Thoughts? |

Hi Taz,
As a fellow Aussie, I agree with the wide variety of low carb beers out there. Some good ones (for the low carbness not the taste) are pure blonde, hahn super-dry, tooheys extra-dry, sapporo. Generally the dry beers are low carb. But stay away from the heavier ales and stouts. I've found that's its ok to have the odd beer, provided you count the carbs. I wouldn't have them until well into OWL. Beer, like caffiene and aspartame can cause funny fluctuations and stalls in some people. Mind you when you take beer, your body will try to burn up the alcohol first before burning up the carbs - so drinking in moderation would be advised. |

If I need a drink, I will opt for a vodka neat, or with some diet coke. Otherwise, a red wine, which kept me in ketosis. If you drink with some protein in your tum it slows down the absorption rate, which is better for your overall health as it helps you metabolise the alcohol.
So, grill up a steak and have a drink (in moderation). then, go for a run 8) |
