I started this change of eating last friday and have currently lost 5 pounds. On another low carb lobby I have read alot about having Egg cream for breakfast. Any one had it? Also can someone tell me the benefits of adding coconut oil and /or protien powder? Will that keep me full and will it speed up the weight loss process?

I made myself chocolate egg cream a couple of months ago. It was awful. I don't recommend it.
Stay away from coconut oil. It's horrible for your health. Use olive oil instead, for frying foods, mixing with vinegar for salad dressing, etc. I no longer use butter or any other oils than olive and flaxseed oil. I've lost over 50 lbs since Jan 1. Protein powder is ok, but you should be getting plenty of protein if you are following Atkins correctly, so it's not necessary. The main benefit is using it combined with soy flour as a flour substitute. If you haven't done so already, make sure you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. You can get a used copy for five bucks or less on Amazon. On Atkins, you will not feel hungry, so no need to try to artificially get a "full" feeling. Limiting your carbs to 20 grams per day and exercising at least 30 minutes every day is what will speed your weight loss process. |

Here are a couple of sources that say that the saturated fats in tropical oils is bad for cholesterol:
The American Heart Association: http://www.americanheart.org/present...dentifier=4582 The National Health Association: http://www.healthscience.org/content/view/47/123/ However, there are other sources that say the opposite. So, I take back what I said about coconut oil. I think it's a controversial subject. Maybe good, maybe bad. (Olive oil is definitely good, though.) |
