Default Too much potassium
Question for doctor:
If kidney function is moderately reduced because of age (79) would any of the stem cell supplements cause an increase in potassium to show up on electrolyte blood test? I keep my potassium level in normal limits by watching diet, but past few weeks, I've eaten too many foods with high potassium and now had a high reading (5.5) last week - so I'm back to watching my diet. Want to be sure that the supplements are not also creating a problem.

Answer from Dr. Ghen:

Check your supplements, some do have potassium in them.Typically, not much but even a little could be a problem. IN general make sure you have a good nutritionist to guide you since reduction of all vitamins may be appropriate when renal function is not up to par.Depending on the cause of your renal insufficiency some Vitamins in proper doses can improve function like Vit. C...find a Physician with training in oral and IV Nutrition willing to work with your nephrologists'.
