Default HCG not working anymore...why?
I have been doing the HCG injections and a 800-1000 cal/day (no carbs, low fats but some good fats for my gallbladder maintenance) since May 2010. I have lost 120 lbs but I have been stalled for a YEAR. I am not kidding. I stopped the HCG for over a month in 2010 but it didn't help. Before anyone says our bodies get used to the HCG and get resistant to it, I have a problem with that idea. Some women get pregnant back to back without even 6 weeks between; they have way higher HCG levels for more than a year and their bodies don't end the pregnancy because they are "resistant" to it. I agree that calories are NOT a factor because I have consistently been eating between 800 and 1000 calories a day and I have even reduced it and still not lost. I upped water intake, did more walking and physical exercise but nothing is working. No, I am NOT losing inches, either. I have tried going off, loading and then back on to no avail. I wouldn't mind maintaining the weight (and it is an amazing thing that I can maintain this much loss this long, even when off the HCG) but I am still weighing around 250 lbs when my ideal weight is 165. So for all that weight loss, I am STILL fat, STILL plus size. GRRRRR! Does anyone know how to get this body of mine to go back to losing weight again? I am feeling rather depressed about the whole thing. I lost so much weight already but it is not enough. Thanks for all replies and insights! Carrie

The hcg diet has nothing to do with pregnancy. That's why men taking a large amount for testosterone don't notice weight loss. And Dr. Simeon mentions that a dose that's too high has the inverse effect. It's a delicate balance. You need a good, long break of six months or more. Your body is trying to tell you something.

The other thing is that with each subsequent round it's common to have to decrease the dose. When the dose is too high there is hunger and poor losses. You've been on it so long that you might not notice any hunger but the poor losses may be a sign that your body is used to it and you're just not going to lose now without changing the dose and taking a break to sensitize your body to it again.

Grammy, Thanks for the reply. I didn't say the diet had anything to do with pregnancy but HCG is a pregnancy hormone which means women are secreting tons of it during pregnancy and they don't get resistant to it. So why should we get resistant to it? That's what I was saying. My husband has Low-Testosterone so he has been using testosterone cream. After a while, the cream seemed to stop working so he switched companies and it worked again. His doctor said his body built up a tolerance to it but that makes no sense because males who make more testosterone than my husband does don't build up a tolerance to their own hormones; they just experience a regular libido for many years. Know what I mean? It doesn't make sense to me that we build up a resistance to HCG when we don't build up a resistance to any other hormone. I will take a break but I wonder if that will really do any good. :::::sigh:::: I will be 52 next month so breaking for six months means trying to go back on in the fall; the hardest time to keep from eating because of the natural rhythm of mammals wanting to store fat for the winter. Thanks for the advice. Carrie

I know it doesn't make sense but I've seen that happen. I call it sensitivity though not really resistance. With resistance you have to take MORE to get the same effects but what I've observed in 3 years on the forum is that we need LESS to get there. Take a nice long break, even 3 mos might help. Then take a LOWER dose not a higher one. What dose are you on now? When that sensitivity kicks in, we don't lose well at all until the dose is lowered.

Grammy, Ok that makes a bit more sense. I am taking 125 IU a day. I will stop for some months (3 for starts) and see. I also have hormone issues going on that I need solved as well. Thanks so much! Carrie

I agree with Grammy, I think your body needs a break to recoup and maintain. And I'm no doctor, but I really don't think your comparison to pregnancy is accurate. There's a huge difference between HCG being produced during pregnancy and using it for weightloss, and I'm not really sure how you made a connection between HCG immunity and losing a pregnancy. There's a reason people do rounds and Dr. S specifies a break between them. That said, congrats on your fantastic losses so far!

Excellent time to solve those hormone issues then! You might as well take the break since you're not losing anyway. And get your thyroid and other hormones optimized.

Grammy,

I stopped taking the HCG right after I last posted (so around Jan 13th) and I have GAINED 6 lbs! I feel fatter too and I am hungry AND have cravings despite not eating carbs! I am terrified that I will keep on gaining too. I am feeling so fat and depressed. I noticed that now that my body has been the same weight (around 250) for a year, it now FEELS fat again. I have aches in joints that stopped aching when I first lost the bulk of the weight. My waist FEELS bigger too. I feel so much fear that I will gain it all back. This terrifies and depresses me.

I am having my thyroid tested this week. I got all my hormones tested and it turned out my testosterone was normal (after being off the bioidentical testosterone for three weeks) but my estrogen is low and my progesterone is low. I am losing hair badly since December; it is so bad I have thinning hair on the top front of my head like male patterned baldness. I am just starting bi-est cream (bioidentical estrogens) and oral progesterone (because the naturalpath said progesterone oil can cause cortisol to rise).

I hope things get better. Are all these problems normal for someone who has lost over 100 lbs and kept it off for a year (though most of the time I was on HCg almost continuously)? I need some encouragement and to know that others have had long stalls like this and still managed to lose weight after going back on the diet later. Do people usually gain some when they go off the HCG?

I wanted to add that I read the site about leptin resistance and I started the LR Rx yesterday. I lost 3 lbs while not on HCG just by eating the BAB and more protein! That's amazing.
