January 26, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Lizzie Harrington came to the Hull House Association as a 17-year-old foster child. She was served by the charity and after graduating from college returned as an employee to serve others.
"If it wasn't for Jane Adams Hull House being a part of my life I don't know if I would have had the direction that has gotten me where I'm at today," Harrington said. Harrington and 300 of the charity's employees are packing up after 122 years of providing everything from foster care to head start programs to job training. The Hull House Association can no longer afford to stay open. http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?sec...cal&id=8521173 kind of sad. It survived the depression but not todays economy. |

that really is sad. Too many people are so worried about themselves they have simply forgotten about those that are truly in need. That is why I have stated lately that the upper 25% needs to take care of the bottom 25% and let the middle 50% fend for themselves. The middle has became the whiniest bunch of all and the middle is most likely the better equipped to deal with their with their own problems or they would already be in the bottom 25%. Thanks to Obama, lots of longtime businesses, charities, homeowners, and all kinds of things are shutting down and losing grip. Like the middle class. He is truly preventing a recovery. How much more damage will he do?
He hates self-reliance and prosperity through capitalism in favor of collectivism and that nanny state. |

The liberals just dont get it, whenever you take money from the people then the people have no money left to make these kinds of donations to charities that directly affect their own neighborhoods and communities.
I used to give every year to a local shelter but I can no longer afford it. While i still volunteer at the SPCA, and always will as long as I am able I honestly doubt I will ever be in a place to give money to any charity. I would just like to know why the left thinks this money that is taken in taxes EVER gets to any of the areas of concern they say they want to help. Govt has, and is notorious for wasting and stealing money, on both sides. This makes zero sense to me, and then for them to try and push in a socialist direction giving Govt more power to make bad decisions? These people are literally retarded. |

You'd think that just one of the assholes that sucked in record millions might be selfless enough to...wait, what AM I saying? It's not up to the successful people to remember that particular charity and to have prevented it's closing. The economy is the reason and Obama and the dems are the reason it's still in the shitter. His policies have not fostered a recovery - they've prevented it. |

Romney gave what to charity exactly??? Romney and his wife, Ann, who jointly file taxes, gave $1.5 million cash in 2010 and $2.6 million cash in 2011 to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the tax documents show. In total, the Romneys donated about 16.4 percent of their adjusted gross income of $42.5 million in the two-year period, according to their 2010 tax returns and an estimate for 2011 taxes. The 2010 return shows $3 million in charitable contributions, and the 2011 estimate shows $4 million. A former Massachusetts governor whose campaign estimates his fortune at between $190 million and $250 million as co- founder of Boston private-equity firm Bain Capital LLC, Romney is a devout Mormon with deep family ties to the church. The remaining deductions for donations are listed as noncash charitable contributions, including tens of thousands of shares of stock in Domino’s Pizza, Senasata Technologies, Dunkin Donuts and Warner Chilcott that went to his family’s Tyler Foundation, based in Boston. Romney’s Bain Capital acquired those companie s, records show. http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...r-2-years.html |
