So, as some of you may be aware, I'm a big Fresno State Bulldogs fan... I pretty much try to go to every football game, and watch/listen to the basketball and baseball games when I can. Well, we have a rivalry (though very lopsided right now) with Boise State, but it's a pretty friendly one. I post on a Mountain West Conference forum (Boise's home next year, and ours starting in 2012), and a Fresno State forum, and there's a good number of people that post in both places (Fresno and Boise fans alike). Now, getting to the cool part.

As anyone that may have seen our field in recent years, and especially towards the end of the season, you've probably noticed that it's in absolutely horrible shape. We've been trying to get field turf installed so that we have a safer playing surface during the season, as well as a place that we can regularly practice on during the off-season (because our practice field doubles as a ponding basin for when it rains in the winter/spring). But, this area of the country has been in an extreme economic depression for the last 3-4 years now. We're very dependent on agriculture; but farmers and dairymen are having really rough times lately, and they've comprised a good portion of our donations in the past. So, our field turf project has been coming along far more slowly than was hoped.

Now that I've gotten all of that out of the way. We started up a Text for Turf program that'll donate $10 to our field turf fund for every text you send to the number (obviously then charged on your cell phone bill). Earlier today I found out that there are a good chunk of Boise fans that are actually donating money for our field turf. By and large, Boise fans are some of the classiest I've ever had the privilege of interacting with. The two times we've played in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, we've had their fans show up in huge numbers wearing Bulldog red to root for us. Even though they've dominated our rivalry in football, it's a very friendly one on both sides.

Anyway, I just thought that was pretty cool. You don't really hear about many things like that in the cutthroat world of D1-FBS college football these days.

It also looks like we stand a good chance of getting our turf completely funded and in place for our home opener on Sept 17th.
