Default What a Match!
between the US and Canadian Women's Football teams in the Semifinal, w/ the US winning it in the 122nd minute, saving us from the agony that is PK's. They came from behind 3 times to tie it in a very physical matchup in regulation.
It will be tough for US and Japan to match the intensity of this one come Thursday @ "new" Wembley Stadium. It will be a chance for the US to avenge their W.C. final loss so it could be just as good a game.
Thanks to NBC for allowing me to see the end of this a few times in succession on MSNBC,and then on the dedicated Soccer channel.

If they let Japan off the hook like in the World Cup im gonna be pissed. Japan had no business winning that match.

\Alex Morgan’s late header at Old Trafford staved off Olympic elimination and forces a rematch against Japan in the final. Really, it’s just Alex being Alex.

It’ll never get boring, but Alex Morgan’s dramatic game-winning goal against Canada has become a familiar sight. (Watch it again here.)
It’s far too early to ponder her potential legacy, but the 23-year-old has already built up a marvelous reputation. She rescued her team from an undesirable outcome (in this case, penalty kicks), just like she has time and time again. Her propensity for late heroics is what initially endeared her to the USWNT faithful.

really was a great match. I skipped out of work a half hour early to go watch it at the bar with a friend and was well worth it. Looking forward to catching part of the Gold Medal match on Thursday, but I have a tennis match later that evening.

BTW, the Canadian women and their coach and crying foul and claiming they were cheated and the Ref made a mysterious call on that goalie 6 second rule.

Oh well..

They had started whining even before the match accusing the US of "Highly illegal tactics" trying to curry the refs favor. Meanwhile the 1st two hard fouls of the match were by the Canucks.

on free kicks, the players in the wall are never supposed to raise their arms, especially inside the box. They have no one to blame but that defender who had both elbows outstretched while she was jumping. AND they still had another 30 minutes to win the game.

i think the fact that she's hot is what initially endeared to the faithful.

that wasn't the problem. it was the call that led to the kick that resulted in the penalty. cards being given to keepers for time wasting is common. never seen an indirect free kick awarded for it.

Usually those cards are awarded on a goal kick or free kick, dead ball. If the play is live and a card is given for time wasting, you have to award the indirect kick. My point is, the game wasnt lost on that referee action, it was lost on the hand ball and the inability to rebound in extra time.

I didnt see it live, but if the ref felt the need to make that call, she must have been clearly wasting time.

I think with me it was the promise of what a player she will become (and is becoming this Olympics) and that promise that showed in burst last summer that endeared me.....oh and yeah...she is so adorable!

Really. I thought Sully and the gang were holed up somewhere in India since this place was real slow the day India lost all the power.

Breaking out "Greatness has been found" t-shirts as the other team is crying on the field isn't exactly in the Olympic spirit.

Obnoxious Americans.

I resisted posting all game I did. And I really wanted to a couple of times.
I say post. If brett can't keep himself from clicking into the thread, that's his problem. If you can't post here, where are you going to post? Twitter?

So is it OK to talk about the soccer match now?
Meh. TJD ruined it w/ his premature post above
It was still fun to see in the replay.
Curious though how the IOC feels about those T-shirts worn TJD mentions. They did not look like officially sanctioned Olympic wear.
