Don't know if this is the right place to post this but I need help. I've been using an electric fence to keep Tucker in the yard. He is 3.5 years old, 90lbs, and can easily clear a 6foot fence. He got out of the yard and a neighbor was scared to death of him when he tried to say hello. I need to make sure he stays in the yard. Any suggestions? My HOA will only allow a 6 foot fence. Help???

I am not a big of fan of electric fences, but...is he outside unsupervised? I think your only options are a tie out or to only let him out when you can supervise him and take him back inside when done.

Ya... I've got a big boy like yours that will clear is six foot fence if inspired. I wouldn't trust an electic fence. I'd put in a proper chain set up for him like I have for my boy. Get a good wide buckle nylon collar on him to use with it though.

Or if you live in the suburbs and don't feel comfortable using a chain spot, you can try building a dog run with a roof. I suspect Bubba can clear a six foot fence but my dog run is set up so that even if he wanted to, he couldn't clear our dog run.

someone linked this on another post somewhere, they have nice kennels, I don't know if they do them for single dogs or how much they cost or anything, but you can at least see the setup and see if you can make one yourself or find someone that can if you don't wanna go to a chain set up.

Well if he can't go over...he could also dig under. A proper Tie Out for the times he is unsupervised is my suggestion.

i'd definitely say use a super long tie out. make sure it's really strong and he cant chew through it. may not want to leave him out there though unsupervised.
if you find he needs more ways to get his energy out try putting him on the treadmill.
my dog loves and she will just lay on it when we go down there and wait for me to turn it on lol

build a dog run with a concrete floor or barrier which goes 2ft deep into the ground so he cant dig out. make sure the run has a top so he cannot jump out.

or just keep him in the house when you cannot directly supervise him.

Electric fences are nothing more than you taking your hard-earned money and flushing it down the toilet all-the-while your dog easily charges through them to go on a spree through the neighborhood, or while another dog/animal comes into your yard where a fight ensues, or where someone easily walks into your yard and steals your animal. (well, the underground electric fences are what I'm talking about....the standard electric fences are too thin of wires to do anything but serve as a secondary feature to a fence line)

Either build a solid concrete kennel run that has the chain link put into the concrete slab to prevent digging under and where there is a solid top. Or put the dog on a proper chain set-up within your yard.

Regardless of which method you choose to go with, your dog should never ever ever be allowed to roam free or even be off-leash if your yard is unfenced.

He is never unsupervised. I am always at home if he is outside. I never leave him out unless I'm at home. What kind of tie out do you guys use? I was thinking of pouring small concrete slabs on either side of the yard and putting a metal pole into the slabs then making a run between the two poles and putting a harness on Tucker.

Do not tie him out on a harness. Get a wide heavy duty collar, I like the ones from Stillwater.
