Have you thought about contacting rental agencies and having an agent find you a rental home in your price range that does allow your dog? My husband and I were trying to move to Missouri from Michigan a few years ago. We Googled rental agencies, spoke with a few agents over the phone, gave them our price limit, number of bedrooms and bathrooms we needed, time limit, and explained we would need a landlord that allowed our dogs. We had a few housing options emailed to us with photo's within hours.
If you already have employment in your new state, Google a map of the surrounding areas. Then Google newspapers in that area. Check the newspapers for rental homes and look for available properties that suit your needs. Make calls to landlords. Also check out Craigslist in the new area for rentals available, too. If that fails, then I am sorry for you and your dog, but failing a responsible home or a great rescue with an opening I would agree with putting the dog down. |

....and you should be able to find a home that allows your dog, you may have to pay a little more but that is what comes with owning a dog. |
Its a sucky situtation but im sure if you look hard enough you'll find something. Once I came home from work with a note on the door that I had 7 days to rehome my dog or get out. By the 6th day we was out, sorry but my dog is like my kids and they aren't going anywhere that Im not!!

Well that blows! I feel bad but seriously when there is a will there is a way! Try harder! Find a place that will allow him! That's like saying u can only find a one bedroom so u gotta give your kid away! Smh. Sorry if it's harsh. But damn I'd live in my truck before I'd give one of my dogs up to anyone! I hope you find a place that u can keep him!

i had that problem a while back. some places had 20# pet limits and others were only for cats. i got lucky when i found a place on cragslist that was open to all pets. i put down i had a american bull terrier(took the pit out) and they accepted it. if they had problems with it after i signed the contract, i could have sued them for doing so for voiding my contract. well the apatment worked out great to say the least. i walked him every day, but i also made sure to have a muzzle on him before opening my apartment door. residents seemed to like that i did that.. what im saying is check all your adds in craigslist.... find apartments on the outskirts of were your planning to move too no further than 25 minutes away. usually you will find some that will take them, or if that dosent work some houses are just about as cheap to rent as apartments. you just need to look a bit harder.

And...I'd like to add, there might be someone willing to foster the dog until they find the right set up.
The reason I know that-I'm almost doing that exact thing right now. Fostering a EB, his owners are military. One is overseas, the other is about to go through a ton of training, and it wouldn't be in the dog's best interest to bounce around every few months...not to mention there will be a two week period where she's "in the field". Responsible owners who care about their dogs-they're out there...even if they're few and far between. |

Sometimes things happen, and none of us know when that shoe could be on OUR foot.... no matter what precautions you take, @&^% happens sometimes. I hope everything works out for you and your dog and my biggest wish is, that a miracle happens where you would be able to keep him! Best of luck!! **ETA** I have one foster that I've had now for 2 years that I can't find the right home for.... and a new stray that I've taken in.... for a grand total of 7 dogs. If I didn't live in the country, there is no way I could have all these dogs. I can't afford all of them as it is, but I can't volunteer to take in any more. Rescues/foster homes around here are over flowing... I can't get anyone to take in the stray or Cooper.... who probably won't go anywhere, but everyone that is willing to take in dogs and help, already has more than they can feed now! |

you should have gotten another breed. these are the things people dont understand with these dogs before they get them. they end up finding out afterwards and the dogs pay. stick with a non bully/non APBT/non dominant big breed next time. the dogs always pay.

I would put a dog down before turning over to a "rescue". Things are SO uncertain at them, things change. In light of what recently happened at Spindletop in Texas....a LONG respected (everyone "heard" and "knew" it was THE place for Pit Bulls), no one should trust any "rescue", (especially the very large ones). When there ARE no homes, how is "rescue" going to find one? Carla |

I lived at a campground for a week once just because I had nowhere else to go with my dogs. Keep searching.. you will find something!

I wish you luck. And wish I could help....
I can't believe some of the attitudes and judgements posted on here. |
