Default How old to spay
How old does a cat need to be to spay. I have a kitten and the vet said after her first season which could be 4-6 months but the rescue center said that their vet does it from 10 weeks so I am a bit confused.

I have had 4 cats spayed and they were all done at about 4 months, I never waited until after they had their first season.

My local rescue centre which I have volunteered in before will do it from 10 weeks also as it is so important to them that the animals get done, and also that they get rehomed quickly, so it makes sense not to leave it unless necessary.

I haven't had a female cat for over 20 years, but I remember she was spayed immediately after adoption, I did not wait until she went into season. My male cats too...they were both neutered before they ever got a sexual urge, so they are both mellow fellows!

Mine were all done around 4 months, before their first season.

Our vet made us wait until after the kitten's first season and it was horrific. It caused her to be extra, uh, "friendly" of course, but she was trying to cuddle with the other animals....aggressive cat and dog included. So there were lots of fights and some injuries to me when I had to break them up. The only solution was to isolate her during it and that was just horrible because she'd cry and cry. I really wish they would've let us get her spayed before.
