does this upset anyone else?

When people call an apbt just a pit bull terrier without the American

сайдинг 07-15-2012 03:29 PM

Naw, at the rate the GP is going I'd be happy to have them know the word Terrier is included in the breed.

isopsmypovA 07-15-2012 04:27 PM

Meh. That's just looking for a reason to be shitty at someone. There are worse things to be upset about. You don't hear people using the full name of the German Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Labrador Retriever, etc... It's just basic instinct to find a common abbreviation for a breed as long as the majority of people still know what you're talking about.

ehib8yPc 07-15-2012 05:18 PM

As long as it is one I don't mind. Now calling another breed an APBT or pit bull terrier or just pit bull irks me.

vernotixas 07-15-2012 06:12 PM

i think there are more pressing issues concerning the breed....
maybe dropping the "pit" in the name would help. but am not too sure. at the end of the day so long as you know what"s on the end of your leash who gives a shit....j

American Bull Terrier? @.@ I'd get that confused with a Bull Terrier. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png So I like Pit Bull Terrier better if no one wants to say American.

Nosmas 07-15-2012 07:45 PM

Better than people saying "I got a Pitt"

doesn't upset me, really.. nice to hear something other than pit or pit bull.

As an aside.. I love it when my daughter tells people what Indie is.. American Pit Bull Terrier sounds so cute rolling out of the mouth of a 3.5 year old!

Marc Spilkintin 07-16-2012 09:14 AM

Honestly, I hate that "American" is in the name. I really truly do, and even though I force myself to say "American Pit Bull Terrier" each time someone asks what my dogs are.. it's STILL not a phrase I find easy to say.

I wish they'd just left the name at Pit bulldogs. But that's too rough and rugged, apparently http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Petrushkaukrop 07-16-2012 02:35 PM

Teal I actually called Jud a Pit Bull Terrier yesterday. I got lazy LOL

My 4 year old twins do this too! lol Anytime someone asks about the dogs, they say Karma is a "doggy" (mixed breed), and Cassie is an "American Pit Bull Terrier"......lol Makes me chuckle every time. Lots of people seem a little taken aback by how "proud" they are about their dog, and her breed. lol I usually say "pit bulll terrier" if someone asks...just shorter I guess? More people ask me about what Karma is than Cassie, because it's not as obvious.

choollaBard 07-16-2012 04:02 PM

For whatever reason I feel like it's the addition of "terrier" on the end vs just "pit bull" that differentiates the actual breed as opposed to type/mix/appearance. Makes no logical sense whatsoever but just makes it sound less generic to me.

anconueys 07-16-2012 05:41 PM

It's better then saying calling them pit's! I usually tell people I dunno what that is. IMO it sounds like the person is trying to make them sound tougher. In which yes, I know 90% of GP has them for that reason anyway... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png

delnisfernan 07-16-2012 05:53 PM

I don't mind...infact most of the time we just say Pit Bull...but ours are rescues so they really are just PBs. I too don't like just the word Pit...whenever other people are talking to me about my dogs (that aren't familiar, or own the breed) they seem to say Pit when they're trying to tell me that they think they're good dogs with bad raps. Like they want to be in the "in" crowd. It usually makes me cringe.

I typically say Rhode Island, instead of The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Not many people realize that's the states full name.

Point taken. I seriously thought it was just Rhode Island. :O I didn't know that it had such a long name. Well that's like Washington DC is Washington District of Columbia.

I agree I have actually told people my dog is not a pit bull terrier but rather a bull terrier or bulldog

Why would you call your dog a Bull Terrier? You do know there is such a breed and it looks nothing like a pit bull.

vernotixas 07-16-2012 07:49 PM

yes but they are all bull n terriers.

Petrushkaukrop 07-16-2012 07:52 PM

Yes, but there IS a breed called a Bull Terrier. So if you tell someone your pit bull terrier is a bull terrier and someone actually goes trying to find a dog like yours ... they will not find one. 0o;

bestonlinepharmasy2 07-16-2012 08:17 PM

I don't give a shit what people call their dogs. I call mine a bull dog mutt. Or a terrier mutt.
