Default A safe dog park?
Here is a dog park that I would use if it weren't so far away.

same rules the dog park around here has (no I do not bring my dogs to a dog park). I still hear that the place is a shit show even with all the rules.

no pit bulls... ok. Small dogs separated from big... ok. Reserving the park for yourself and your dogs and kids... ok. Still the risk of disease, etc.

One of the better dog park plans I've seen, but I still don't like dog parks.

I've found an amazing dog park for Moto. We don't go very often, only three times total now to tell you the truth, but it's perfect for a rare treat.

It's a LARGE park situated right beside a regular walking path and right across the street from a lake. Every time we've gone there's been a maximum of 5 other dogs there. The way the entrance is set up you can easily watch the whole pack interact and if they seem unbalanced or if there's a ruffian then we have the option of just going down the walking path or around the lake. All the owners I've met there are very strict about their dogs behaving well (so much so that Moto doesn't rough house with anyone) and I haven't seen a freak yet. Perfect.

Ditto.

Honestly we were using an abandoned dog park for awhile, no other dogs/humans ever came there. It flooded too often for it to be a good location. So we used it until they tore it down. In retrospect it was probably a bad idea, she probably still could have picked up some illness there.

Now she is content to just get her exercise on leash. If she needs to really run and stretch those legs we put her on a an extra long lead. But she is kind of lazy. She honestly could care less about interacting with other dogs. She just rather not be bothered by them most days.

Those Dog Park Rules listed are pretty much standard. Only difference is around here they have a long list of breed restrictions. Which no one really pays any attention to. In fact the few times I did use a dog park years ago, no one really paid any attention to most of the posted rules. It was mass chaos and not some place I care to take my dog back to. Makes it a pretty scary place. You would have big dogs in the small dog area. Small dogs in the big dog area. People bringing in toys and bones and treats for their dogs to play with. People coming in with up to 5 dogs at a time. People leaving dogs in the fence unsupervised and going off to the their car, the bathroom, etc.

I think if they had someone there to actually enforce those rules it might be ok.
Like if someone was at a booth at the gate and checked vaccines and told owners to leave when their dogs were being retards etc.

That would be nice. But, most are county/city owned and that would mean paying someone to do that. It would be really cool, in a perfect world, if some rich old dude bought his own dog park and had all the bells, whistles, seperation by "type".. ahhh.. one day. lol

Even with Vaccines the dogs could carry the disease and never get sick. They are working on trying to get a DP here not to far from me. 'Bout 30 minutes.

But I'm not sure if I am sold yet. Falls back to the unknown disease carriers... and fleas.

It's not the typical dog park. It's on private land and membership is required. They also have an agility play yard in there too. Being able to have access to that and know that you have the place to yourself for an hour. If I was close enough I would use it.

*Unknown disease carriers and fleas can be encountered in any public park, sidewalk, street, hiking trail or beach.
