I don't see a fur mommy as someone who spoils their dog.
A fur mommy, in my opinion, is someone who humanizes their dog and actually ends up mistreating the dog, putting the dog in danger, or keeping their dog from living life as a dog with their beliefs. Such as someone who thinks only fat dogs are happy dogs, someone who trains their dogs to use pee pads or a litter box so they don't have to to ever go outside, someone who refuses to accept a breed of dog for what it is (like people who think that the only pit bull worth anything is one that meets their image of the perfect, sweet cuddle bunny that would never hurt a fly and that can be raised away from its vicious, disgusting dog fighting past to be as docile as a lamb. And any pit bull that shows dog aggression has automatically been abused and trained for fighting and the dog can still be rehabilitated to remove the DA). Fur mommies are not good for their dogs. And I don't know what's worse for the bully breeds. The BSL activists or the fur mommies. |

When I think of a furmommy I think of people who actually put their dog in a stroller and put clothes on it. That kind of person to me is scary and needs a phsych consult.
I also love my dog to go everywhere with us, she has her own bed, she is like family but I know she is a dog. |
I've put clothes on my dogs. And I am really far from being a fur mommy.

Clothes for the elements depending upon where you live can be a necessity. No dog needs a bikini however. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png |
LOL! Yeah Snow and Koi both have jackets for the winter and Koi has a couple sweaters. I have to get Jud a Jacket now too. I'll wait until he finished growing. But Clothes doesn't mean fur mommy. Stroller I can agree on. ^^;
And what is the point in a dog bikini if it doesn't cover all her teets? XD I think i'll just let mine go nude. |

I also dress up my toy poodle every so often I also think I'm pretty damn far from a fur mommy. |
I'm not talking about that, I fully dress my dog appropriately for weather conditions, I'm talking about people who actually dress the dog as they think it is a baby in a stroller, for their need, not the dog.

It's been said multiple times..
I also agree dog's have feelings/emotions, but the basics. If we go somewhere the dog's can go, they are coming with. If we go to someone's for a cook out or something, we ask if we can bring Sophie. We only do so if the other two can go to my mom's at the same time: 1) I think asking someone that doesn't have a dog to bring 3 dog's over it excessive. 2) We do the whole "I feel bad for leaving them behind" thing, but also know they will live and it'll be okay if they are alone for a few hours lol We are also guilty of talking to them in "puppy talk" or just out right talking to them. My mom sings to them... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png But I'm willing to bet 99.9% of you at least talk to your dog's lol It's okay as long as you don't think they are holding a conversation with you or answering your questions http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png Fur mommy's try to cover up the true blood of "pit bulls" with the "it's how u raise them", my dog would never hurt another dog, the list goes on.. Fur mommy's find excuses for their dog for their acting out towards other dog's, it's never their dog's fault. Their dog's are an accessory more than anything else. -They "awww" and coddle when their dog simply hit their head on a table leg, corner of the wall etc In the end, they simply forget they are dog's. Something I will never forget nor let my gf forget. Even as much as we spoil them, hug them, kiss them etc. We still realize they will never poop in the toilet, stop chasing critters, nor never do we think we know them good enough to trust them around each other alone or alone with babies. |
Save-them-all mentalities and those that believe in the "No Kill Nation" where there is no end to suffering of animals that live out the rest of their days in a cage because some selfish human thinks any life is better than death..
People that believe that dogs don't need to be trained. They believe that "the dog wants to do this so I just let the dog do it". |
I am guilty of calling my old bastard beagle my kid....but he's the closest thing I got to a kid and he listens better then most people's actual kids. But I'm not a fur mommy http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/redface.png

Someone who humanizes their dog. Someone who doesn't give their dogs boundaries.
|
... I may be a furmommy. My dogs are inside all the time except bathroom/walk times, I humanize them to a point, and I for sure take them everywhere with me that I can. When my GSD was smaller he used to literally go everywhere but now I have three and I feel like if I take one I have to take them all because (again) I humanize them and feel like they'll be jealous/sad.
On the flip side I know my dogs are no angels. They all are in training of some kind and have rules. All the same someone may want to form an intervention or something for me. |
Omg and the people who cover their dogs ears and get offended when you call their dog a dog...
|
Innocent question
No need to get your hackles up, but I have seen this a few times and am now wondering......................
What is YOUR definition of a 'Fur Mommy'? |
Someone who coddles their dog, doesn't believe in having them outside, usually keeps them chained to the couch and loves them with food instead of training and exercise, and usually believes that a fat dog, not a fit dog, is a happy dog.
|
Someone who is blind to the fact that their dog is a DOG.
Someone who thinks dogs are a all rainbows and butterflies and their precious duke could never do anything bad/vicious (like dog aggression). |
someone that thinks there dog is there baby (because there babies are grown and gone or they never had any) and I don't mean just pretend, they say things like "this is my child, if I could have I would have given birth to him/her" they don't do much if/when the dog bites someone (normally ankle biters, because when a bigger dog bites they actually do enough damage to have to go to the hospital eventually) does not discipline, typically the dog is not potty trained and they will even cover the dog's ears when someone curses...it gets pretty ridiculous and my aunt is almost this person lol
|
Someone who doesn't believe in the outside dog, who thinks their dog has to go everywhere with them, who humanizes a dog a believe that they have human feelings, ect. You want to know what a fur mommy is ... I can PM you a site you can join ^^;
