Default Really...cause that makes my dog magically ok?
I take my dogs to work as demo dogs. We walk around and show off their tricks and behaviors. Of course we come across the people who whisk away their small dogs and toddlers and completely freak out about a 'pit bull' walking around the store (on leash mind you).

There was one such person who came up (staying out of Acheron's reach, even though he was sitting at heel perfectly) and starts talking all this B.S., the usual stupid myth crap. I just smile and correct her. Then I ask Achi-mou to do a 'high ten' which he does. And for some reason, beyond me completely, that one simple act of obedience and cuteness is enough to make her ask to pet him. I tell her ok, watching to make sure she doesn't do something asinine to my dog.

The whole coupe of minutes of petting Acheron is just sitting there, wagging his tail and smiling. "OMG he really IS nice!" is her reply before rushing off to tell her friends to come pet this miraculously sweet 'pit bull'. By the end of it all I end up having to pry Acheron from their 'coochy-coo' clutches so I can go back to work.

I wish it was always that easy to change somebodies mind...but seriously....my dog did a trick...and now you love him....HUH?!?!

Maybe it made her realize that it is after all...just a dog; and a smart, cute one at that.

That people are leery and cautious of strange medium sized athletic dogs and grant them their "space" does not surprise me and I'm sure if I talked to a Poodle or Chihuahua owner for instance and explained my impression of them as a breed in general ... they might think I'm weird, or a dumba55

I used to be one of those humans too and understand where it is coming from.

I love the challenge of changing minds now...

Cute tricks warm the cockles of peoples' hearts.

Makes people think; There's no way that dog could be a baby eater! It high TENS!!!

A good one is teaching them to hold a basket with dog treats/human treats (wrapped of course). I know the GP around here got a hoot out of that one with Roxy.

AND...if you take the time and care enough to teach your dog cute tricks...you can't possibly have a meth lab in your basement...all of a sudden it's all hearts and flowers.
