sorry hon.... it's just that several times a year i hear folks on here talking (or what i consider moaning) about wanting to go to a show.... and they can't because of this or that.....when in reality there is at least 1 ADBA show every year somewhere, that most anyone in the country can hit with a few hours drive.... you have months of notice, months to take a day off work.... months to get a car fixed.... months to put aside a few hundred dollars...months to convince the hubby (or wife) , months to condition your dog,....months to get over whatever fear it is in your head.... etc...etc...etc....
meant no harm.... go to the indy area show this year... it's a great oner year in and year out... camping available... talk, walk, show, pull and live the dogs all weekend!!!!!!!!! |
Stacking??
How do you go about gettin them to stack?? I've been tryin for a few days practicing with Luna but she acts like shes scared to! Im not being mean about it, I slowly move her feet to were want them, all the while praising her and giving treats.... Sh still just will not do it and in the almost stacked position she just tucks her tail between her legs.... Tonite she even started to shake so I just gave up..... I did get a couple pics of our "attempt" I'll post in a few mins.... Any advice on how to practice this would be great http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Lots of pups are a little like "WTF are you doing??" when you first stack them. No worries, the vast majority grow out of it. Example, this was Sako the first time I really tried stacking him:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7672003_n.jpg Notice the tucked tail. and then fast forward to when he was 6 months: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._1326508_n.jpg He's now 14 months and stacking isn't a big deal for him anymore. He knows his "job", and does it well. So just keep up with short practice sessions and make it FUN! Are you going to be showing her? She's cute! |
What a cute pup.
Great picture definition of the word "stacked" Kady, Sako is looking good. |
Thanks http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png He looks like such a baby in the 6 month old picture!
|
She is a beauty!
Keep your sessions short and fun. She hasn't yet grown into her body yet and it probably feels awkward to her. Once she gets some good muscle tone it'll be easier for her. |

thanks, im quite fond of her! never did i think i would just pick a brindle dog, not that i have anything against them, ive always been more for red colored ones, but color isnt everything and she stole my heart!... no i wont be showing her though http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png she doesnt have any papers, but i figured i can still teach her to do that kind of stuff anyways. i think it will only make her a better dog. plus it will be good practice for me to work with her like i am going to show and other things because in the future i do plan on getting a dog with papers and showing them if they are worthy... how to you go about getting them to stand correctly? just to i know im doing it right

For stacked pictures, you want to take the picture showing the "show" side (aka left side of the dog, like Sako's pics). The one of him at 6 months is pretty dead on for where their feet should be. |
Thank u so much.thats really helpful. I just LOVE sako!!! I want to learn more about weight pull and agility for her, but she's still to young to start that I think. But like I said I can practice with her on conformation and get a good idea of what to do so when I do get a fog with papers. I didn't care much for papers atthis point because I just wanted a pet right now, but I don't see why I couldn't still mess around with that stuff with Luna

A bit too young for anything too physical, just let her grow up and be a pup at this stage. You can work on obedience with her though! |
Yeah that's what I'm doing so far.... She's soooo stubborn though lol She only has two settings awake a going non stop like the energizer bunny or crashed out asleep so finding time when she's calm enough to teach her much os diffucult but I keep I mind she's still only 9 1/2 weeks old... Feels like she should be older because I've had her since she was 5 weeks

When is usually about the time you can start training weight pull? And what exactly is agility?
|
Try stacking her on carpet, or something that she won't slip on.
Agility is when your dog runs through an obstacle course, as quickly and precisely as you can. It's a ton of fun, and a lot of dogs love it. Here's a news piece that some of my friends did recently, it includes a wonderful rescue APBT named Twinkie. They just do a couple obstacles, but they explain a bit as well. http://www.wfsb.com/story/16496862/a...aws-and-effect For weight pull or agility, which are both strenuous physical sports, there is plenty of beginning foundation training you can do w/a youngster. And unregistered dogs of any breed can compete in both sports. |
I use cinderblocks. Gets them off the ground and if they try to step off they only hit air, hence they want to stay on. lol

there are really no shows "close" I know there are I think 2 total in Indy, maybe 1 or 2 in Louisville but I can't remember if there are any any closer (I looked it up this past year but then was never able to go to any)
