I have a friend who was badly bitten in the face when moving the dog she had raised from a pup off her bed. He was a Brittany spaniel. No news story, despite her need for reconstructive surgery.

No dogs are not like people they are dogs, they dont have feelings like us and if your raise your dog thinking its like a human you are going to run into problems.

Dogs don't have the same ability to reason that we do, they don't seem to think in abstract terms, their way they make connections and generalize is different than humans. However, there seems to be a lot in common with humans in regards to emotions. Patricia McConnell's book, For the Love of a Dog looks at the science behind this, but it's written so the average person can understand it.

NP! Looking back on my experience with my first aggressive dog, there were signs of serious mental instability. I just had no clue that's what I was seeing. I know better now, but I would be willing to bet most people are where I was then and have no idea.

I hope the lady bitten heals without damage and that she either has the dog euthanized or seeks the help of a professional behaviorist. No place in the world for an unstable dog when so many good ones are looking for homes.
