I hate that. People have asked if I want to breed Bonnie (usually, not even to Dobermans... "I have a Rottweiler and they would make the CUTEST puppies!") which is astounding to me because Bonnie is NOT social or anything, the only reason they want to breed their dogs to her is because she's pretty.
Hell, half of the people that ask don't even know she's a purebred Doberman, they think she's mixed because of the floppy ears... |

I think so. Especially since this is a "fun run". I like this place because on their website the talk about how they'll work with the dogs if they're having a hard time understanding the concept. I also really like that they make a note to mention that DA dogs are allowed. They go on to talk about strict leash rules and such. I'd imagine if you are comfortable with your dog doing it-then so are they. Does your dog have an health issues?
Trooper is dog reactive and can appear to be DA from his frustration to meet other dogs...We're going to have him run by himself (you can choose to do this or have the dog run with other dogs) and he's going to be wearing a muzzle. I told my husband we'll scope out the situation and if we think Trooper can't handle it...he's too amped, or the other owners don't appear to be responsible enough, or whatever reason...then the cost of his run can be a donation to the people doing it. It's going to cost us $25 for two dogs to have two runs. If it doesn't work out...I've spent $25 on dumber shit. If you decide to sign up-we're shooting for the morning runs, maybe we can meet! Always nice to know other dog people in our area. |

My daughter requested a framed picture of us and a framed picture of the dogs to keep on her nightstand for Christmas. I stopped at a drug store to print out some photos I had on a disk so I could frame them up and send them in the Christams box I was shipping her.
The machine they use was kinda wonky and I asked the clerk for some help. She saw the picture of all 4 dogs and asked if Owen was a purebred Basset. I told her he was. She then asked if he was still intact because she has a female coming into heat soon and has been looking for a male to breed her with. I said that we had never gotten his papers because we weren't planning on breeding him as he was merely a pet and hasn't done anything to prove breed worthy. She said she wasn't concerned about that and offered her name and number if we decided to breed him within the next couple weeks or so. I politely declined. My husband was with me and he was so proud it was sick. Apparently, he thinks it's cool that Owen is so handsome he got propositioned without even being there. *rolleyes* |

People are idiots. I remember when I had my 2 Dobes, I had them at the flea market and this couple came up and ask when I was going to breed them b/c they were a fine pair. I said never and they ask why. Why- b/c it would be really hard considering both were neutered males! Then they tried to tell me Gunner looked like a female and I must be mistaken. I just shook my head and walked off.
Looks male to me! ![]() |

I know he is DA-and it all about how the dogs present themselves. If nothing else, you guys can just come out and watch and see if it's something you think Trigger might like/can handle. |

Can any dog do lure coursing? Do they have to meet certain qualifications? It depends on what sanction you go through. Where I live, we have one of only a handful (if not the only) sanctioning body that registers and titles ANY dog in lure coursing. They have to do qualification runs to make sure they run clean, and there are rules that must be followed... but that's it! There is everything from a Basset hound to an overweight Labrador that compete lol and everything inbetween! |

This is a lot of it for Trooper as well. We can have him in public with other dogs around and have him behave-but I can see it is very difficult/stressful for him, so we don't ask him to do it a lot. We plan on bringing crates and blankets, and things to keep our guys occupied until it's our turn. My hope is that he is so focused on this lure that the fence they'll use (it's looks like a plastic mesh thing) will prevent him from even noticing the other dogs...not to mention the muzzle we'll have on him. I wish I had one of those handle leashes that I could leave on him while he ran that way if I needed to quickly grab him I could. I plan to completely be on guard with him (and my husband too). I really want to try this, but it would be unfair of me to ask Trooper to do something that is beyond him. So like I said, if we think he can't safely handle it, we'll just make a donation.
