OK so not to sound like a smartass cuz I'm not, why don't you just ask her? I mean you're the one who claims you can communicate with them and people like me are just close minded for not believing it LOL. |

Boogie; When I'm stressed and have things going on, I can't speak to her properly, that's why I haven't asked her.
Un_Original; Cause I wanted to know exactly what it meant, if you read my post properly, you'd know that. I wanted to know if it was actually a growl or not, I wanted to know if it was a meaning of being uncomfortable or a warning to bite. That's why I posted this. |

Not every warning is a warning to bite...right away.
For example, If you annoy me (using "you" just for the example) I may warn you to shut up, back off and leave me alone. My warning does not mean I am going to punch you out because you are annoying me. In fact I am actually going to try not to punch you out and I may warn you several times to back off. If you seem dense I may up the ante and warn you more loudly or with bigger gestures. However if you persist, you may well cross the line and get on my last nerve, or I may start to sense you are a threat or I may get so adrenalized that I'm not thinking clearly...I may eventually punch you out. If we are going to assume that I am relatively stable...there will probably in most cicumstances be several steps between my initial warning and my taking a swing at you. If you suspect I may have some instabilities, then I suggest you watch yourself. ![]() |

Veronica does something like that when she is on the couch sleeping. I assume she hears or senses something outside because the couch is near the window. LOL exactly!! |

I'll let someone who knows body language answer but Star would growl with his mouth shut. No teeth. With teeth, that's snarling I think. --- I posted this though because I want to know if this is a growl or just a grumble. Is it a warning to a bite if she came in contact with whatever she was 'grumbling growling' at. |

I was wondering if some one could tell me what this means.
At times, Serenity will let out a grumble growl sort of sound. Her teeth don't show, her mouth is closed so I don't know if it's classified as a growl or not. I just call it a 'grumble growl' since it sounds like she's having a grumble but it reminds me of a growl. Is this a growl?. If a dog does this, does it mean a warning such as 'I will bite'? Or is it a telling that she's uncomfortable?. I'm just asking since I've heard this a few times and I want to know if it's a growl, if it's a warning to a bite. What got me thinking more about it is she did it last night when my sister was outside my room (at 3am). She's done it to my brother and a guy once. Other then that, she has only done it when people come to the outside of my room. Thanks. |

Bella grumbles at me when she is laying on the bed, usually on her back upside down....
![]() ![]() The body language would definitely mean a lot in how I would read this though. |

Based on your description, she just sounds unsure of what's going on.. it doesn't warrant barking or a full on growl/snarl, but she's concerned enough to make a point of it. My dogs will do this sometimes... until whatever it is makes itself clear, then they're like OH! I get it! lol |

Odin grumbles, sighs and makes other noises all the time. My friend's dog ran into him because he wasn't paying attention and Odin grumbled at him. Sometimes if he's in my lap and I move to get comfortable, he'll grumble. Sometimes, if he's waiting in front of the fridge and I don't notice him, he'll grumble. It's different than an 'I'm going to bite you' growl. He doesn't show teeth at all. Just lets you know you are disturbing him.
That's how he earned his new nickname of grampa. Sometimes, he's like a grumpy old man. |

Thanks. She is a fearful dog and has shown she will bite some one sadly. |

Please ask her and tell us what she says ![]() As for what it means, a growl is a growl and is always should be interpreted as a warning of some kind. |
